prov 150 carb question

Hey I have a 91 150tlrp and i was taking off the carbs due to a coughing issue at idle and found rtv covering the top of the bottom carb, it appears to be sealing some sort of ball bearing pressed in the housing and was wondering if it should cause concern. Thanks

Those balls are there to seal off the ends of internal passages. The fact that they are sealed suggests that some previous person has removed the balls/plugs to gain access to the passages for cleaning .
That they have sealant on them is not a worry but if I had coughing at idle issues thats pretty much where Id want to look.
Other possibility is spark plugs , and sometimes 2 strokes just spit and cough a bit , specially if they have been idling for a while . Crappy oil or fuel doesnt help .

Extract the balls then drill and tap for a screw. While the balls ares out thoroughly clean the carburetors.

Different takes . I usually get a fn small drill , like .75-1.5mm depending on size of your balls (literally ) and drill into the ball about 1/2 way thru then put the shank of the drill in the hole and lever ball out . Do what you have to and then refit the ball hole facing out , maybe a bit of sealant and then I get a wad punch just a bit bigger than the hole , centre it around hole and give it a small tap with a small hammer so as to pien around the hole thus locking ball in place . Having said all that them balls are smaller than the ones I usually remove .
But tapping a small thread in there is a good idea too

Any of the ways mentioned above will do fine . They are not under any stress.
When I said about wanting to look at the balls re the poor idle I meant thats where I would look to fix the idle as someone has done , not that I suspect that the sealed in balls are causing an issue now .

Then somebody seems to have attempted a repair previously. Any idea how far the rod was inserted? Too far and it could mess the passageway up.

Can you drill the rod so as to get an extraction screw on it?

Unfortunately, RTV doesn't hold up well in a gasoline environment. If the ball just needs sealing, use some of wife's nail polish to seal it. Epoxy glue will work as well. Clean the area with acetone, before applying sealer.

Yeah , the wife's nail polish . I have bought bottles of clear polish and cleaner in the past ( for patching fishing rods bindings , stone chips etc ) and they have all been stolen .... right out of my fishing box , talk about brazen
