How do you test the stator on a 1999 90hp johnson

The stator battery charging coils should have resistance of .185 ohms.

the power coils should have 45-65 ohms resistance.

All this is in the factory service manual.

How do you tell which wires are which I have a sea lock book but it doesn’t say which wires are which and nothing online to show the 1999 90 hp configuration

I am assuming the motor is a 60* V4.

Battery charging coil is yellow and yellow/grey. The stator battery charging coils should have resistance of .185 ohms. You can get to these wires at the plug that goes to the water-cooled voltage regulator.

Power coil and charge coil connect to powerpack.
Power coil is orange and orange/black. Resistance should be 55 Ohms +- 10 ohms. Both wires also must have infinite resistance to ground.

Charge coil is brown and brown/white. Resistance should be 1100 Ohms +- 10 ohms. Both wires also must have infinite resistance to ground.

Thank you Chris1956 you’ve made a fixed income 70 year old grandfather of three boys hopeful of finding the problem with a no crank engine unlike some others who think you should have all appropriate manuals.If everyone had all the manuals there would be no reason for this forum.

The other resistance test is from each stator wire to ground. Resistance should be infinite.
