I have an 1985 V-6 2.5 litre OMC Sea Drive (1CBXCRA) on my boat (a Cobia Triton 228 WAC). I am considering removing the Sea Drive, installing a bracket, and then repowering with a 150-175 horsepower Johnson or Evinrude (Bombardier) outboard.

Will my current OMC Sea Drive stuff (throttle cables tach, temp, etc.) connect with a new Johnson/Evinrude (Bombardier) engine? Or will I have to invest in a new set of wires and cables and install them on my boat?

If I purchased an older rebuilt Johnson/Evinrude (built by OMC vice Bombardier) would that make a difference in compatibility?

Also, will the curent Sea Drive access hole in the stern have to be filled-in? Or inasmuch as an Armstrong bracket will cover the access holes, can it be attached to the stern without filling-in the access hole? Will the strength of the bracket and stern be compromised if the access hole is left as-is?

If you are happy with the Seadrive bracket, The outboard powerhead should be the same, just replace, repair the powerhead.

any thing 1996 and newer will require the new wireing to use system check this is a very important feature thats incorporates eng protection into the tack. or a separate 2" eng monitor with the four lites there is a adapter to use the old harness but you are much better off with the new harness because of the aded eng protection . the hole left from the sea drive is pretty small and should be easly covered by a armstrong type bracket
