I have an 1985 V-6 2.5 litre OMC Sea Drive (1CBXCRA) on my boat (a Cobia Triton 228 WAC). I am considering removing the Sea Drive, installing a bracket, and then repowering with a 150-175 horsepower Johnson or Evinrude (Bombardier) outboard.

Will my current OMC Sea Drive stuff (throttle cables tach, temp, etc.) connect with a new Johnson/Evinrude (Bombardier) engine? Or will I have to invest in a new set of wires and cables and install them on my boat?

If I purchased an older rebuilt Johnson/Evinrude (built by OMC vice Bombardier) would that make a difference in compatibility?

Also, will the curent Sea Drive access hole in the stern have to be filled-in? Or inasmuch as an Armstrong bracket will cover the access holes, can it be attached to the stern without filling-in the access hole? Will the strength of the bracket and stern be compromised if the access hole is left as-is?
