Hi. I have 2 1980 evinrude /johnson 7.5hp. I have just had to cannabilse parts of each to make one unit. Lower power head evinrude with new impeller. Re oiled gearbox. power unit at top had broken thermostat housing and head which i replaced from the evinrude. Had trouble getting it ticked over but followed some good advice on posts and retightened head. It turned over/started this afternoon and sounds good.
Problem is no water. Impeller is new. i cleaned out the pipe up to the top as best i could.
Its like theirs air coming through to the water outlett but only like a very very fine mist of water vapour. Have i missed something in reassembling the bits. Murray in Bendigo

In a test bucket , the water must be 6" ( 15 cm ) above the impeller.

Take the male barbed adapter off off the block that the tell tale hose goes to. Start it ...if it's still dry and you think the impeller and kepper key is in correctly then your most likely plugged up somewhere.

getting a little water out but only little. have tried pushing air down, initially started coming out of intake but now only coming out of exhaust. will let it sit for a day to loosen any muck. any other thoughts

Did you remove that nipple like I suggested?

Also, you had air come out the intake? If so that would be bad.
Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, intake manifold?
