Anyway . . . I have been doing the really boring stuff . . . rounding corners, sanding, etc. Fillets come next.

I assume that with the PB and frosting bag, I should mix it in small batches, as it will tend to harden-up as I go.

My work area (garage) maintains about 65˚F and the open time on the resin is 30-45 minutes. I'm going with 2% MEKP . . . I tried closer to 1% and it really needed additional heat to cure.

depends on how fast you can move and how big the bag is. I was able to do the entire bilge area in one shot. Maybe mix at 1.5%

In other news, I got the transom pretty much cleaned off.

I'm going to mark the cut-outs in the transom from tracing the openings in the extension pod (going to put the extension pod in place temporarily to do this). I'll also be able to check the fit of the extension pod to the transom contact area (the 'cleaned' area).

It is a gallon jug . . . should be enough, I can get more if needed. I also have milled fiber.

With my one project with resin/filler/membrane I used a quart ziploc with a corner cut off to apply the goo.
It was a hot summer day and my first try with a mix kicked shortly after I got it into the baggie. I never got it applied. The bag was so hot I pitched it out of the boat onto the garage floor. It clattered when it hit the floor.
....learning curve.

I had a 3% mix kick in the mixing cup on a hot day..... melted the plastic mixing cup and started smoking

I had a 5:1 epoxy kick in a mixing cup. That was violent, it actually contracted the mixing cup like a shrinky dink. The open time was long but when it went it went fast. The poly mixed at 1-2% was pretty resilient even at 100+. Never found myself fighting to work too fast. Again, could always chill the mixture if needed. I did leave a half quart sitting in a cup just to see how it would react and it got hot. Was playing with the TIC that day.

Marine Concepts has a MEKP injector failure in the mix room a few years back. the whole batch went up in flames. that is why the mix room has auto fire supression

I fillet-ed most of the day . . . I got the ones done that can be done. There will be some more when I put the remaining pieces on.

I'm going to be traveling for the next 10 days or so. I might get a little bit done tomorrow AM, but that's about it for a while. I'll be glassing after Thanksgiving.

Speaking of resin . . .

I tend to keep the resin cool and add heat once the glass is wet-out. IIRC, while doing some glassing during summer heat, I put the resin jug in the refrigerator over night to delay the hardening.

On my swim platform build, I used a 'slow' hardener "Norox MCP-75", which slowed things down by about 2X.

By contrast, 2-part foam wants to be hot to start. So, I pre-heat the liquid parts overnight and heat the area to be foamed, if needed.

I foamed in the middle of that heatwave and left the pails in the shed where it was reading 120F. To say it kicked quick would be an understatement lol.

When I did mine years ago it was about 80 degrees out and that stuff expanded like the movie the BLOB. I did it before laying down the deck and cut it flush with a hand saw. Worked out just fine.....still solid 18 years later.
