I have been looking online and finally found what I wanted a 8x12' skid house for ice fishing. I found one that is wired with lights and outlets but the interior is unfinished. I will get to make it how I want it, a living room on the ice. I probably will not get it on the ice this winter but I am not in a rush.

How you going to get that to the ice? Will you trailer it? I know it turns into a bunch of weight. Many people have used junk pop up trailers for a base since they are towable.

It is on wooden skids. My neighborhood consists of 5 houses on a peninsula. We have our own private boat ramp , towing the house on skids will not be a problem. The houses with collapsable wheels are nice for about 5 years then the salt on the roads eats the cables and hydraulics.

How many ports in the floor for fishing?
4" floor?
2" or 4" walls?

I did a clear polycarbonate roof, used a few bits of aluminum tube painted black with DC fans in them for heat. Used a solar panel and group 27 battery to power the DC fans after it got dark

4" foam insulated floor, inside is 4" walls but the inside is uninsulated or finished. It has 7 holes for flooring but I will be redoing those and installing real hole covers with sleeves in the holes. I despise a drafty fish house. I have a generac inverter generator for power it is wisper quiet. No bunks just a table and a couple couches.

My son in law called me a half hour before I was going to start driving to go buy the house and begged me not to buy the skid house. He said he is buying a wheel house that he plans on keeping at the lake. As much as I was looking forward to the project, I am not going to turn down a fish house I don't have to pay for, and won't be stored at my place during the summer.

I can not believe it, looking at Ice Castle wheel houses, just want a basic. I don't need a lit canopy, gas range and stove, microwave, TV and sound system. The last thing I want is a "rest room" and seems they all have them. The restroom consists of a small closet with a 5 gallon bucket and a toilet seat. I am not sitting in a fish house while somebody craps in a bag lined bucket and stinks up the house, and then what haul it home in the back of my truck and dispose of it, big nope.

agreed, you do not need a crap bucket inside.

so you going back to the skid house?

the last shanty (skid house) I build with a buddy had 4 wheels we put on pipe axles thru the runners to roll it on cement. they were the wheels he uses for his boat lift.

you need insulation, a heat source, power source, storage for jiggin rods, lighting, a place to put the power auger.

Scott I agree but my wife believes that the grandsons should have nice things. I will admit using my neighbors wheel house where you go out to a warm house with the lights are on, it is hard to go back. Kinda like once you have the remote start with the heated seats and steering wheel in you vehicle, you never want to get in a cold car again.

I am going to search in a 4 state area and when the ice starts melting the prices will start dropping.
