Hello fellow gear heads! Long time since I have posted on here. I am currently helping my son-in-law with his boat. He has an Alpha outdrive that is leaking out of the upper drive area. I will be replacing the seals. I cleaned up the yoke, and it appears to have a groove that is a bit too deep. I plan on using a speedi-sleeve, but have a question. After measuring the yoke, it is 2.240" in diameter. Doing some research here on the forum it seems like the SKF (and other brands) part number that works is SKF99225.

That particular sleeve says it is .781 wide, while the yoke is only .5" wide. Is this going to cause a problem? Can it stick further in, or will I need to cut it off somehow. Those who have done this before, let me know what you have done. Thanks!

Just to follow up - in doing a little more research, I see part #99227 has the same diameter, but is only .43 wide in total, but only .31 inches "shaft length." For that one, I don't know if it will be wide enough....

that should be plenty wide just has to cover where the seal rides. How much is the sleeve vs a new yoke?

If you dont have it get a factory manual for your drive has step by step how to do all repairs and any special tools needed. Usually can find the tools used on ebay for half price.
