I have a Heathkit Stereo I built in 1975, it has several dozen Electrolytic Capacitors in it, and it still works...
My understanding is that these old parts could run forever unless they were underpowered overpowered or not powered at all. I have a battery charger from the 70s that works better than anything you can buy today. Too bad your radio can't start my boat lol

For anyone still following I have ordered the new amplifier, this time it's a more modern aftermarket part vs the original. This one comes with a different ignition coil as well. I have my fingers crossed. I have also ordered new points as well. I figured why not it will complete the new ignition system. After these parts arrive the entire ignition system less the key switch will be new.

F*** YEAH!!!!!!! The part definitely looks more modern and I was sceptical after a little wiring and quick prayer. I cranked it up and as soon as it had fuel it started and purred like a kitten. I am so happy if the nice weather hold up I'm going to spend the day at the lake with my grandson. Thank you everyone for your patience and advice.

You have no idea.... I'm glad I ordered from marineengine.com the first part that failed $400 I was given a refund which helped pay for the updated unit and coil which was $600. All and all I spent about $1000 no pun intended. But my ignition system is now 100% new on the engine. Key and harness remain original.

Call me cynical but I think some of these suppliers will simply repack returned items and send them out again hoping that someone wont go thru the hassle of complaining/returning .
