Not too long ago one of ( fill in ) responded to one of my posts " not here long but knows everything " I would like to respond that I know most of nothing, but, if I can give hindsight to at least one person here, it is a win. I TRY TO HELP, it is my nature, unfortunately I come about it too strong at times ( and I truly apologize for that ) . I just would like to be part of this community ( if I am posting too much, tell me ( yes, here it comes) if I am dead wrong( and it happens a lot) , TELL ME. I really want to be part of this community and I promise my new 1974 Starcraft pictures are coming soon. In the meantime, 1969 40 hp evinrude the starter solenoid fails 2 x a year, keep an extra on board.

Those solenoids were used for about 40 years on many models.---Super good and durable.----Find the real reason it won't crank.----Such as the safety switch on the engine.

I never even heard of a safety switch on a 1969

Some 64 models of these wonderful motors already used a safety switch.----Find it on your motor.-----Has one white wire going to it.----And it only needs one white wire.----Internal contacts might be dirty.----Prevents cranking when throttle is advanced too far.----Can be adjusted if need be as well.

I did not even imagine electronics on those motors then, do not get me wrong, I was already 3.

A solenoid is a solenoid is a solenoid ....just get one off a V8 or diesel motor that got a higher current rating , make a bracket if needed ...Bobs yer auntie ....unless you do have a dickey safety switch , but you could probly find another one of them too ....just gotta think outside the box

Im fine with it . Dude the whole point of such forums is for peeps to tell you if they think your wrong enough to cause injury or expense .
I have always been in the repair industry one way or another and you learn stuff that transposes over to boat motors . It would be fair to say that on the scale of things I dont actually know Jack about outboards coz I have had bugger all to do with them other than my own or friends but a lot of the principles are similar to what I do know well.
Ya know there have been times here where I really have thought " this guy shouldnt be let anywhere a motor " coz you can sorta tell .
Last job I worked at I was in charge of all the apprentice electricians and electrical service technicians and you get to know real fast who's going to fly thru his time and who....isn't.

Ah yes wimmin , I was really hoping no one would open that can of worms
I had a neighbour ask me to wire up a 3ph contactor/ float switch to power a well pump during river floods , there was no neutral or earth readily available so I gets to planning ....long story short I bailed on it in the end because it made me realise how much I didnt know about current regulations .....and this guy is already the most accident prone guy on the planet .
