Great day on the water yesterday

Had family friends up for a day at the lake. The mastercraft was flawless pulled tubes all day long. Caught a huge break I knew we were running low on gas, engine died when I pulled up to the dock. Had to carry a can down to put some gas in to get to the landing to pull it end of day. My wife asked why I didn't put the full gas can in, I said dear when I fill the empty boat it goes to town to get filled, she had no idea how many of gallons the gas tank is, then she said you burned 25 gallons in one day?

Reminds me of a time a friend of mine INSISTED that I allow him to "fill your boat with gas", I told him that wasn't necessary, etc etc but...he insisted. SO almost 90 gallons later @ $5.50 a gallon he...learned a hard lesson about boats, lol!

Last summer my son had his friends from high school to come up for the weekend. One of the lads wanted to give me $20 for gas, I asked so you going for just one pull behind the boat?

Indeed. For the last several years I have only put maybe 15 - 20 hours a year on my boat. It's stored 300 miles from my residence, and I just don't get to the lake like I used to...

This morning was glass my son said you don't many mornings like this. No other boats on the water it was stunning. Son said I don't have a lot of time just going to half the run but going to let it rip. Holy crap he was doing to he finally listened to me about setting up the turn before the turn and it was beautiful. Then the laces on his ski tore and broke, he was pissed best run of the summer and his ski boot laces fail, he was torquing them though.

Lake Matheson is glacial and there is no nothing allowed ...no floatation devices of any sort , no fishing , no dogs ,no drones ....all you can do is use the walking tracks (you cannot deviate off the tracks ) and take pix .
Tell ya what tho Mark while there is great bird life there a bunch of Otters would be really awesome .....I mean they would probly un-ballance the hell out of the ecology so you couldnt but they sure would be cool to watch . I like Otters

Fragile Ecosystem I suspect. One good thing about a complete Ban, is that there are no Wakeboard Boats on it. The Mountains in the background, appear to be quite recent, being sharp and jagged

Apparently this lake is well known internationally for its reflective surface and to be sure I have been there many many times and the only time I have ever seen it non reflective it has been raining ....like the west coast of the south Island is well known for it huge annual rainfall ....the locals lie their arses off but everyone knows its always pissing down .
Im pretty sure those mountains have been there for a while , they were definitely there last time I visited
Tbh jimmbo as soon as I googled that image I did think of you as a photographer . Im sure its not the only place in the world like that but I bet you could spend ages there adjusting your camera and trying different stuff.

The Mountains have a look similar to a lot of the Canadian Rockies, which are about 400kms from where I live. The Rockies are relatively young Mountains too, but on the side closer to me, are the remnants of old worn down Mountains. Most of the 400kms between the Rockies and my Home, if it wasn't for abundant Rain, would look like the Mojavi Desert, as the Soil is mostly Sand, with a layer of organics on top. That Sand is the eroded Mountains

Im pretty sure those mountains are part of the southern alps which sit on a fault line that runs pretty much the length of the south island , so I guess geologically they are quite young and I think that as they are slowly pushed up a bit falls off the top so they don't really get any higher . Mt Cook ( NZ's highest mountain ) used to be 12349 feet above sea level when I was a kid but a bit fell off then it was 12316 feet and in 1991 a rock and ice slide reduced it again to 12215 feet , so its on the move . I suspect those mountains in my image are a bit the same so yeah , they are quite pointy.
