1989 3cyl 75 HP Evinrude - Running on One Cylinder? (Videos Included)

Ok guys here's what transpired.

• I did end up doing the reeds completely as well as cleaning all carbs. Seeing a TINY BIT OF LIGHT is normal. The reeds never seal 100%. Obviously if one is far bent up it's bad but you will never get 0 light. I know because I put new OEM reeds in
• All was well but I still got intermittent spark here and there. Thought it was the power pack. Replaced. Worked for awhile
• I did all of the voltage isolation tests with a max voltage meter. All is well in isolation.
• Realized it was a poor connection at the power pack to coil pack harness. It stick an ohm meter in the orange wires and get nothing until I wiggle.
• I hard connected these and was fine
• I then got one cylinder die out again (the middle one this time)
• I did the same thing at the timer base.
• I now have the coil packs and timer base wired with marine grade bullet connectors. These give a better connection and I can isolate each wire at a time to TSHOOT

On a 1982 motor those evinrude terminals tend to suck. Cut them and rewire yourself. That's my advice.

Old school rubber connectors have never been a problem for me unless someone left them apart and corrosion occured. Glad you found the issue and fixed it. Have fun!

Obviously I have to heat shrink them but look at the old terminals. These are for tilt\trim (a pin broke) but the others were similarly corded

I think the bullets are the lesser of two evils on a 45+ year old motor . I put dialectric grease to help. If it became an issue Ill wrap in self almagamating tape or marine heat skrink around thebullets

Those old ones were beat

The ones you put on still need to be shrunk on both ends ...you missed a step. I have no problem with the bullet connectors. After melting those, if still wrap them in something.
