What's the word on the street about current Mercury models?

I am considering a new 60hp to power a build in progress, and trying to assess reputation, ease/cost of maintenance, general reliability, and anything else that I might need to know before plunking down a wad of cash. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

4 cylinder . hydraulic lifters good bottom end torque ( gets out of the hole quickly ) , available in command thrust , but not as frugal on the fuel as some ............. google it .........thats what I just did

Good motors and last a long time with proper maintenance. Check what the maintenance schedule is before buying. My Verado's require plugs, full filter and Alternator belt change every 100 hours, and the plugs are pricey

I had an original equipment '05 Merc. 60 hp Big Foot (CT) 4cyl, efi on my used pontoon purchase in 2016/17. Kept it up to july of 2021. I found oil/filter, fuel filter changes easy. Also impeller, plugs, and a belt were normal effort.
Replaced it with a new 2021 115 hp CT in July 2021. Plugs, oil, filters, impeller all normal effort. Checked thermostat and passages this year as I operate in brackish water. All looked great. Close to 300 hrs on it. No oil use.
Sometimes I can't hear it idling..probably my ears...but it is quiet.
I might be dealing with a Fuel Supply Module , extremely intermittent, issue.
Single engine out on the bay, that's an issue no matter what. FWIW, ran it all day labor day, no problem....so.

Reports from owners on here and elsewhere indicate that Tohatsu makes a great engine.....Maybe that's why Merc. decided to use them. There was a TV show on Dish (when I had them) that was filmed in the La. brackish water area, SW of NOLA and there was mention on there about their reliability from the owners making the films.

There seemed to be a lot of Tohatsu motors used on the Swamp People show. I don’t know how many true to life rigs were used. I know most, if not all, the gator fishing was fake.

i had a 99(?) 15 hp Nissan (Tohatsu) and loved it.

Yep , I have a M18d Tohatsu .....great motor

They are good motors, but tohatsu is just as good for much less money
