1983 Starcraft Islander

So ever since i seen one for sale and missed out I have been looking for a good fixer upper, i found a 22ft Hull is in good shape, appears to have been sitting inside, the add noted they had started replacing the floor which is what I figured I would be doing over winter regardless, but it has the 470, My question is are these engines really that bad or is it because they need to be properly maintained as most engines should be regardless.

I am looking for a budget boat to work on this winter and have ready for spring fishing and family time and figure this may be a good start and the fact I have always liked the looks of the starcraft aluminum boats.

LOTS of floor replacements on here that include Starcraft. Poke around and post pics of what you want to replace? Gets condiferably more in dpeth the farther forward one goes.

I'll defer the questions on the 470 to smart people.

Myself, I would go this route. A bit of structural work involved but in the end, the OB option is more desirable.

470 in that will scoot. BUT most 470’s are junk.. a good solid inboard 3.0L will drop right in and cost much less than an outboard conversion. 140hp is all that boat needs and what many of them got. However don’t spend too much.

If that boat ends up not being the one, you can add Sylvan Offshore to your list of contenders. Very similar hull built by an offshoot company of StarCraft. Built on the older style Islander hull essentially.

Yea I'm going to hold off I think and find one that's in running shape, I picked up a little 16ft for 500 dollars with a chrysler 105 to mess with until I find what I'm looking for as far as bigger

Thanks for the tip, looking for something to fish the lakes and be able to have family days out and have always loved the islander as well as StarCraft in general

going to be tough to find one in good shape. they are all old
