1978 Mercury 70hp Adding Power Tilt Trim

Google Ai tells me the 1978 Mercury 70hp didn't have a Power Trim option. But I'm reading that it came on later models.

Does anyone know if there are newer models that have Power Tilt Trim that can be modified to work with a 1978? I know I can buy a CMC, but I was wondering if there are power tilt trim from newer models that can work.

I'm reading that finding a balanced fixed setting is good enough.

I think you need a PTT unit from the 3 cylinder Mercs starting in the early 70s. I think you can also use one from the 4 cylinder 50HP Merc of the same vintage. I do not think the PTT unit from the 4cyl 800 or 850 or any IL6 will fit. The PTT system consists of 2 PTT brackets, PTT pump/reservoir, 2 PTT cylinders and 4 hydraulic.

One or more of the members on this forum have such a system on their motors and have provided pictures in the past. Hopefully that will do so again.

There are also aftermarket systems like CMC.
