3 cylinder nightmare

I have a 1997 3 cylinder 25hp that I broke the lug off on the thermostat cover that threads into the housing (I got the cover off but the lug is broke and there are a couple holes in it now that would cause water to leak). For the life of me I cannot find 0339256 OR 0436079 part numbers available anywhere. Are there any alternatives or replacements or advice? My last ditch will be JB weld the holes shut and hope for the best.....motor is a good running motor otherwise.

Your part number is one digit off. Last number should be a 7....
339257

Didn't see them new but eBay had many.

I actually believe the schematic to be mis labeled (if you look at a different similar motor with the same thermostat housing the numbers are correct)……I do in fact need 339256. I’ve ordered the part you are referencing and it is not the outer cap, just the inner housing the thermostat sits in.

if the outer cap as you call it is not to damaged just rebuid it with high PSI JB weld and if need be to make certain JB holds.... put a few stainless staples in the plastic before recoating them with JB weld . smooth over and done ! I rebuilt my skeg with the stuff!!

You are correct on your original part number and I was wrong. Normally you read those schematics from left to right but this one goes right to left. I had that motor until recently and it was a pain. We had a gentleman here who couldn't get the right water pump housing because he'd order from the schematic and it was incorrect if I remember correctly. I'd cancel your order because it won't be right. Someone on eBay may have the right part but the wrong number if they interpreted like I did. I apologize for the misinformation. Tims outboard in the Hachensack MN is a legitimate resource for used parts. 218 682-2331 They have been a reliable source for me. Those plastic caps are a problem. On my E-tec I use the outer notches instead of the inner notches because it doesn't fail. Socket only.

Glad you were able to locate that...I suggest buying a parts motor if you can find one. Power pack has been reported to fail more than normal and keep those carbs clean. Lots of filter changes and non-ethanol fuel.

I'm assuming the vro has been deleted as OMC specified.

Yessir, VRO I assume is the oil injection? Either way this one was removed and you mix the oil with the gas. Frequent Fuel filter changes I assume?
