Re: Evinrude Yachtwin Starting Problem
Tdelorme,

Welcome to the forum!

You have a 1965 3HP Evinrude....
As djohns19 and Middleground suggested, you have some parts to replace. Be sure to include condensers in the mix of replacement parts. You'll probably find the older coils have cracked and are leaking the spark to ground. Since you'll have the coils out, inspect the coil wires for cracks and the plug boots as well for corrosion. A factory service manual is good reference material for proper care. Nappa auto parts carries parts for marine motors too, btw. Take your time, read and learn by doing the repairs youself. If you need help, just give the fine folks here on the forum a shout. We'll be sure to help you out.

I too, have to agree, those motors are really a joy to own and operate. This summer I was fortunate to find a 1971 4HP 'Rude with 10 original hours on it. It looked brand new!! I replaced the water pump impeller and rebuilt the carb and it runs smooth as glass.

Treat that motor right and it will out live you.
