Just wondering what y'all think about sea fox boats. am looking at a cuddy cabin but didn't see a lot of storage or fish storage

Guess nobody has had any dealings with these boats, I think they are made in the Carolina's somewhere.

I believe that Sea Fox is another company started by Renken who are not thought of very highly in the boating business.I have no experience with these companies - just what I've heard/read.

I went to their web site and it said they had quit a few years experience in building boats so guess maybe they combined all their employees into this year deal to get the total number. If no one has heard of the boat it couldn't have been around that long.

John H-<br /><br />Renken does own sea Fox. My friend, who is a dealer, confirmed that they were acquired in the last several years. They were (are?) a small family run busuness that put out a good product. Being small and in South Carolina, their reputation is not as widely known outside of that area, especially up here in the north east.<br /><br />What model cuddy were you looking at? I looked at some of the specs on their models and they look rather impressive.<br /><br />I did notice, that overall, they are light boats and do not have a steep deadrise (18 deg on the smaller models; up to 20 deg on the bigger ones. Leads me to believe that they might pound in a stiff chop or heavy seas.<br /><br />What kind of use do you plan for your boat? Also, what is the standard equipment on these boats? The one I am looking at is a 2300wa 23' it has a 200 Johnson, trim tabs, looks nice but tell me a little more about what I should look for . am looking to go off shore a few miles and also use it in the bay . but I also wouldn't want the boat to pound everytime it gets a little ruough. what is the deadrise and what should I look for. (am trying to learn all I can thanks)

The higher the deadrise degree angle is the "sharper" the vee of the hull is. A deep V will cut through rough water with less pounding than a flatter bottom.<br /><br />There are other variables including bow angles, entry angles, strakes, chines, etc.<br /><br />The weight of a boat also effects the running characteristics of a boat. A relatively light boat with a deep (high) deadrise generally pounds less than a heavier boat with less of a deadrise angle. But then you start trading off on stability.<br /><br />Stability is basically the side to side rock that a v hull boat has. In general,the sharper (greater) the deadrise angle is,the less stable (rockier?) the boat will be at slow trolling speeds or when drifting. SO, your looking to find a boat that has the combination of weight and deadrise that will perform well under your most frequent fishing or cruising conditions. <br /><br />Sounds simple doesn't it?<br /><br />If I'm not being nosy, how did you find Sea Fox and have you looked at other brands. Big E, The sea Fox I was looking at is at a local dealer, I have looked at other boats and the Sea Fox looked nice liked the setup and all and the price was right cheap if you might put it that way, about 10,000 less than the closest thing next to the same size. Really was not sure what I was looking for when I started looking. Thought I wanted a center console but then moved on to the cuddy cabins. This will be just a weekend thing for me but don't want to spend all the money for gas either. Want something I can enjoy and not be scared to take it out a few miles in the Gulf. I liked the Sea Fox until I read the link that Smitty Posted. It has a 200 Johnson on it so I don't think it would be under powered.

John H- <br /><br />Yep! Smitty's post doesn't make it look too promising for a Sea Fox. I observed the same thing that one of the posters on that site started. There are quite a few used 1-2 year old Sea Fox boats for sale, CHEAP!! It seems to confirm that there are problems with the boats. If you take a look at the classifieds on this site there are a lot of them up for sale also!<br /><br />Are you located far from Gadsden or Gulf Shores, Alabama?

Close to Gulf Shores , about 20 miles away. want to find something I can go out a few miles and not have to worry although have been out last year and the bay was worse than the Gulf itself. was on a boat that like to have beat us up bad. LOL ...

After browsing, check out the location of the factory and then look for the nearest dealer to you. I think you will be pleasantly surprised!<br /><br />BTW- These boats are going to be a bit more than the Sea Fox, but you won't have to go for your lungs. The Catamarans will be pricey, but I think you might like the 2250 WA v-hull. Especially with its 25 degree deadrise that should tame almost any seas in the 3-5' range. Lots of standard features and storage as well!

This past summer I had the displeasure of using a 20' Renken on loan from a friend. The boat plain sucked. I've fished off many boats and this is the worst boat I've been on. The bow was swamped a few times in some 3-4 footers with chop at the opening of Narragansett Bay that I've just blown right through in a 20' Wellcraft or Seacraft. A little chop rattled my teeth and it turned some moderate rough water into an adventure. I was looking to buy a boat last year and considered a SeaFox until it dawned on me that this was a Renken hull like my buddy owned fine for the lake and thats all. Besides SeaFox I believe they also make SeaHunt and SeaSport. The SeaHunt I was looking at was the 20' DC, with motor and trailer and it was about $24,000 (I think). For less money I would buy a solid 10 year old hull with a new motor.

was also looking at a prosport that was a 2250 but it only has a 150 yamaha on it and it is rated at 235 I believe, was a little scared that the 150 might be a little under powered for a boat that size

John H- <br />Have you taken any of the boats yo have looked at for a test run? That is a must before you start delving deeper into what you like don't like. All boats look good in the showroom and the catalogues. Ask the dealers that you have visited to arrange some rides.<br /><br />The 2250 Pro SPort rides great! I demo'd one with a Yam 175 HPDI. Nice performance! I would have chosen at least 200 hp, but that's me! Boat also had a lot of nice standard features, lots of storage and amenities.

Was thinking of trying to go out on one next weekend If I can arange to do that. The Pro Sport is a used boat and it only has a 150 and am sure that will be a little under powered but want to try it anyway

John H- <br /><br />If it's a first boat, most people would agree that it's better if it's used as long as its recent and you get it checked out.<br /><br />If you do test it and like it, don't commit until you've looked at and tested several other makes. The Pro Sport is in great shape hardly any hours on it don't think it has been in the water more than once though. will keep you posted. Went over and looked the sea fox over again and just doesn't seem to be any room on it and only two seats. don't know where they expect other people to sit. alos opened up the fish boxes and noticed that the fiberglass is already spider webbing and this is a new boat, don't know why that would be happening or if it would even matter but did make me wonder about the construction of the boat.

Did not see the first Sea Fox at the boat show today but guess I will take a ride on the pro sport next saturday hope I am pleased with the 150 yamaha that is on it already.

went to take a ride on the Pro Sport today and the motor has never been run in water and we couldn't get it to turn over about 3500 RPM so the ride wasn't to good. going to try next saturday again. The motor was a Yamaha 150, the salesman kept blaming it on the wrong prop but I don't think that could be.
