Hi all,

I just acquired a 2hp engine. I'm not sure of the year, but i assume it is from the 70's. It has a sliding throttle from stop- slow- start-fast. there are adjusment knobs for lean/rich for fast and slow. there is a pull out (2 position) choke.

i plan to use it on a small inflatable.

here is my dumb question.

when it starts and runs the prop is moving. is there a prop enagagement lever i'm missing?

how do you startt it in the water if the prop is running all the time? wouldn't you just take off right away?
Is there any way to let it idle and not have the prop move?

i assume you don't want to have the shaft up out of the water for too long, or it will overheat?

I know this is a dumb #%% question, but i can't figure this out!

any help greatly appreciated!

my other thought

Quite a few small motors are in gear at start up. Also, reverse is simply turning it 180 degrees.

Cobra's got your answers; there's no shift lever and the prop is always engaged to the engine. You don't take off very fast with a 2hp, so the starting in gear is really not much of an issue.
Follow Joe Reeves advice here for how to set the mixture. If you feel the initial settings are correct, you can skip that part.
Never, ever start one of these engines out of water. It has a rubber waterpump impeller like larger engines, and will burn it up in seconds if it's not lubricated by water.
