I am having charging issues. It seems that it will charge sometime but other it will not. I have been told that there are 2 regulators and one maybe bad. How do you test them?? Also the tach will does not seem to work when when batt is low on charge. Any help would be great. Thanks Ben

Sounds like your rectifier. Its about $120 for the part. Sits on top of the engine behind the flywheel.

I am mechanically inclined, so would this repair be something I can do or should a boat shop do it?? Do you know where i can find the replacement rectifier?? Ben

It will take you 5 minutes to change. It has a few electrical plugs and 5 or 6 hex screws that you remove. It will come with a new gasket. You can pick one up at an OMC dealer. Some call it a rectifier/regulator. It sits directly on top of the block

if shorted would it also drain a batt? I charged the batt for a good part of the day and after doing some testing and eating dinner it did not have enough power to tilt the motor. The batt is brand new and a base charge was put on the batt before it was used. Thank you for your help. Ben

Make sure the negative battery terminal on the engine block is clean/tight.

Remove it and clean it, don't just inspect it.

Is it normal for the front section of the motor to have what appears to be gas/oil mix all over it?? The whole carb set up is covered in fuel. I dont' even have the first problem fix and now this damn i will never be able to go fishing at this rate

Procraft,

Some "misting" is normal from the air silencer.

I can't see it, but I think you have a fuel line leak. Look on the pressure side of the fuel/oil pump. Pinhole leaks can create quite a mess.

Re: evinrude 110 vro v4 charging issues

I have been checking the batt volts all day and since I clean the terminal off like you said the batt has stayed at full voltage. thanks for the tip I will check it out tomorrow with a dvom while running and see if it will charge now. What is standard operating voltage while running through the batt?? I know a car is around 14v but not sure on a boat. Ben

Between 13.5 and 14.5 volts give or take a little on the high end is good.

it still not charging. I ran it today with the earmuffs on it and it started to drop off from 12v to almost 11v when i shut her down. Does this still sound like the rectifier/regulator??
