GRRR Help I am stuck out on the lake and can't get my boat to run

I have a 1987 Evinrude 150 we just bought our boat and haven't had a decent day boating yet. my Hubby and I are both frustrated, pissed off and feeling abused because we feel we have been had. Boat idles well, and will run in forward or reverse however as soon as you accelerate in gear it will die down/bog down, to me, it seems like not getting enough fuel ( this only happens when it is in gear we can throttle the hand throttle up all the way and it is fine)I should add this is only when we are at the lake, runs great in the driveway with water to it. we have 60 lbs of compression on all cyclindars have replaced plugs and cleaned carbs. <br /><br />any ideas suggestions if something doesn't work soon I am afraid I am going to put it in the bottom of the resiviour.

you may want to recheck that compression that's awful low and if it ends up about the same you got something wrong, like scored cylinder walls for example. you should have at least 90-100 minimum. <br /><br />get back with us before you sink it.

First things first buy a manual!! Are you sure your compression tester is right 60 psi is low. It also sounds like you have a fuel problem. Has the motor set for a while before you purchaced it? I would check the fuel pump, the fuel side diaphram is probably shot.Are the tanks accessable? A cleaning is probably in order and check all the fuel lines and primer bulb for cracks or stiffness. It might be a good idea to search this forum for fuel low power. You would be amazed the knowledge contained here.<br /><br />Good luck,<br /><br />Bayou Thunder

I agree with Bayou thunder<br />my 87 110 hp had the same prob and i took affter checking all other easy fix items I check the fuel pump and discovered that one diaphrams had a small tear in it. good luck
