Hi I have a problem with a 1983 35 horse Johnson motor. The problem is that this engine seems to be possessed. I fix one thing and something else breaks. I recently replaced the ignition switch and the engine started fine (at home),but when I put it in the water it failed me almost 5 miles away from the ramp. I know that the engine is fairly old 22 or so years and it is hard trying to find the complete wireing harness with ignition here where I live so the people at the boat place told me to wire the new ignition using the old one just cut the wires and leave enough wire to tell where the corosponding wire goes on the new ignition. I did this and it worked fine but now the engine wont start and all it does is the auto choke clicks when the ignition is turned. Iv'e searched for a wireing scematic for this engine to no avail and I'm getting to the piont of no return with this engine but other than these minor problems it preforms well. I'm a little concerned that I may have fried something in the circuit because I jumped the starter and the engine fired right up. Could I have damaged something and if so what could it possibly be. I've practically replaced every electrical part on the motor.Coils, powerpack, wires what's next.
