I open up the air intake on my very new to me 94 Evinnrude 90hp to check out the air filter. There was no air filter in front of the carbs.<br /><br />Should there not be one???
I hear the newest generation of Evinrude intake silencers use noise-canceling technology. Old ones just aimed the noise to the back for the most part. Are you a waterskier? Noisy back there, ain't it.
Willy, the air silencer on the 1956 30hp was a Helmholtz resonator, meant to reduce noise. I'm not sure how effective it was because it was dropped in '57. Maybe they're using another technology.
