87 OR 89 OCTANE 2001 MERC 115(FUEL CLEANER?

HAVE NEW 2001 MERC 115 WENT THROUGH BREAK IN PERIOD (EXTRA OIL) CHANGED PLUGS ADDED 89 OCTANE,NOW BOATS SLOW TO PLANE REAL BAD WITH LOAD.<br />COULD THIS BE GAS?? I RECALL MECH. TELLING ME 87??<br />CAN I ADD A FUEL CLEANER?? OR DO I HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS? THANKS

run 87 that's what they were made to run on. Have you changed your plugs after your break in period? I would as you have burned extra oil. Go to your regular mixture.

What boat are you running? It may be the motor is marginal for the boat. Did boat plane w/ same load quicker before? Or is load much more now?<br /><br />Octane doesn't make any difference in power, just deposits (more w/ 89). You should only use 87 octane as fireman 757 suggested.

THANKS GUYS<br />I RUN A NITRO 750 17'6 WITH A 115 TRACKER (MERC).<br />OUT OF THE BOX IT WAS CLOSE TO 60MPH. NOW MID 50, REAL BOGGED DOWN AT START, CHANGED PLUGS ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF WOULD BE GAS? LAST COUPLE TIMES I'VE USED 89 OOPS!!?? SHOULD I ADD A FUEL CLEANER? OR JUST FILL UP WITH 87! THANKS

Nitro750<br /><br />We can't get anything lower than 92 octane here and that really never has been a problem.<br /><br />Your issue is not the fuel quality. Must be something else i.e. some adjustment not perfectly in order.<br /><br />As it is new there must be a warranty etc. so talk to your dealer before doing too much experiments. Not that I think you'll harm it, but it is important not to give the dealer any excuse for backing out.<br /><br />What rpm do you reach at WOT?<br /><br />And finally a kind hint: Do not use capitals unless you wanna SHOUT at somebody.
