1978 1400 battery not charging

I checked all the wiring. I have 14.2 volts at the engine connecter, bridge, ignition box, starter soleniod. I have good continuity to the battery, but only 12.6 volts at the battery. Any ideas.

Hi patchit, welcome to iboats!!<br /><br />Remove the batt terminals (both) and wire brush them, then test again.<br /><br />Aldo

I have done all that. I think I might try changing out the battery.

Most auto parts stores will check a battery for free. Pull the battery and let them test it.

If you have 14.2 volts at the starter solenoid. How can you not have it at the battery? Same source.<br /><br />You using a different guage for the 2 tests.<br /><br />-W
