704 controls and actuator problem

I have twin 1998 Yamaha 250 hp ox66 outboards that are controlled by 2 stations. When I put the starboard engine in "forward" from either station, an alarm sounds. This happens when the engines are running or not. When I disconnect the Pink wire from the wire harness at the actuator, the alarm stops. Any ideas?

readjust the TPS settings on the box. the transfer box is sensing a failure in the system. it should also be kicking itself into netural as well.
something is out of adjustment. I think the 03 Rigging guide has the adjustment procedure in it.
the transfer box has a "TPS" in it similar to the one on the engine, do NOT play with the one on the engine.

Thanks Rodbolt.
Can you tell me what the "TPS" is exactly. I have a 2000 rigging book that mentions the proper voltage to the unit but doesn't mention TPS.

not out of memory, I wont even attempt it.
but there is a section in one of them that details the installation and adjustmet procedures.
having installed and serviced them I can tell you to read and understand what does what BEFORE any adjustments are made.
you will also need the TPS test harness and a digital voltmeter.
basically its a 3 wire potentiometer. black is ground and orange is a 5Vdc reference and the pink is a voltage pick off wire. the other pink is for the alarm system.
the pick off voltage is fed back to the transfer box, if the transfer box senses a failure or incorrect signal it sets the ground for the alarm and shifts into nuteral.

Re: 704 controls and actuator problem

Thanks again for the help.
Any idea what would cause this unit to go out of calibration? I recently disconnected the second station and when I reconnected it, the starboard tachometer wasn't working and the actuator was sending an alarm. Do you think the tach not working can cause the actuator problem?

Re: 704 controls and actuator problem

if the same power feed or ground that is still dissconected from the tach feeds the transfer box I guess it could.
double check all your harness connections.
