Re: small old eska
Hi Ryan and J.B.
First I will admit I am far from an Eskaspert. I also have no desire to be one. I have how ever wasted more time than I would like to think about monkeying around with these sea going weed wackers. Up until a few months ago I never had any manual that actually coverd Eskas. I aquired a copy of an abos marine publications Outboard service manual at a swap meet. This book contains a ton of valueable info on most, I will say non-major brands from1955-65. The Eska is one coverd. As a lot of us know, Eska used Clinton and Tecumseh 2-stroke powerheads. For some reason the 2hp is not covered in the model # list. Eska recommends a 16:1 fuel/oil ratio for all models. For some specs the book will say, see Clinton, or see Tecumseh depending on model. Now here is where there might be confusion. When looking up the specs under the powerhead manufacture, they give ratios from 16:1- 24:1 For basicly the same motors.
Ryan, I feel it would be prudent to follow JB's advice and use the 16:1 ratio. Sorry I shouldn't talk trash about these motors. Guys bring them to me all too often. If I can make them run with out putting any money in them I do so. I always try and sell them an older model Johnson T model or something else. They might be older but at least they are an outboard.
