I just aquired an older eska outboard. I believe it is a 2 hp. Here are the only numbers on it:
TC200 2003B 4088. Can any one tell me what I actually have and what year it is? Also the fuel oil ratio is 25:1 on regular gas. Can I burn the same ratio on unleaded, or do I need to put in an additive or change the ratio? Any help is greatly appreciated. Keep up this great web site!

Unleaded is much better for 2 strokes than leaded, Ryan.

Where did you get the 25:1 number?

I thought all of the little Eskas were air cooled, which should call for chainsaw oil, not outboard oil, and were usually 16:1 mix.

Mebbe an Eskaspert will come along and straighten us both out. :)

Hi Ryan and J.B.
First I will admit I am far from an Eskaspert. I also have no desire to be one. I have how ever wasted more time than I would like to think about monkeying around with these sea going weed wackers. Up until a few months ago I never had any manual that actually coverd Eskas. I aquired a copy of an abos marine publications Outboard service manual at a swap meet. This book contains a ton of valueable info on most, I will say non-major brands from1955-65. The Eska is one coverd. As a lot of us know, Eska used Clinton and Tecumseh 2-stroke powerheads. For some reason the 2hp is not covered in the model # list. Eska recommends a 16:1 fuel/oil ratio for all models. For some specs the book will say, see Clinton, or see Tecumseh depending on model. Now here is where there might be confusion. When looking up the specs under the powerhead manufacture, they give ratios from 16:1- 24:1 For basicly the same motors.
Ryan, I feel it would be prudent to follow JB's advice and use the 16:1 ratio. Sorry I shouldn't talk trash about these motors. Guys bring them to me all too often. If I can make them run with out putting any money in them I do so. I always try and sell them an older model Johnson T model or something else. They might be older but at least they are an outboard.

Re: small old eska

Thanks for the input JB an alcan. I got the 25:1 ratio off a tag on the front part of the motor. I do believe it is air cooled. But do I use chainsaw oil like JB says or do i use outboard oil? I got the motor for cheap, and I do know it ran two seasons ago. Has anyone ever used Seafoam and gotten any results? I found the stuff at the parts store and was wondering about it. Thanks for the input.

Chainsaw oil. Air cooled 2 strokes run a lot hotter than water cooled. TC-W3 is for water cooled engines.

i had one of the tecumseh powerhead ones (15 hp, 2 cyl) and it ran on 24:1. that's what the manual I had recommended and that's what it liked best. I used regular air-cooled 2-strokle oil. the same stuff i put in my weed-eater and blower. outboard 2-stroke oil is for water-cooled motors, which eskas are not.

Ryan,

Hit this web site.. they have some eska parts as well as an id section to identify motor and give some basic info.

I was able to get carb parts(tecumseh) at jackssmallengines.com

good luck.

I'm no expert on the oil but other members tell me 24:1 using modern 2 cycle oils.
