My boat plug is a brass or copper plug that screws into the hull. It is the same type plug used in plumbing applications and my question is could I buy and use a rubber plug?

Re: boat plug

you can but they won't last long and the threads will eat it up. go to HD or Lowes plumbing dept, and get a brass plug.

Ayuh,......
It Should be a 1/2" Brass Pipe Plug............

Although I have seen 3/4" Brass Pipe Plugs used in a very few applications........1/2" is by far the Most Common........

I keep a couple spares onboard; they don't float, and they are very cheap!!!

Re: boat plug

keep one of the rubbers on board, if something happens it will be a lot easier to screw in of them in, than it will be to screw a brass one. I usually keep one extra rubber plug and 1 extra brass. Keep an adjustable wrench in your small (under five pounds) tool bag to tighten it.
