    I'm in fresh water. My lower units on IO and OB had really bad pitting/deterioration . The aluminum anodes showed No deterioration. I switched to magnesium anodes, now I have no deterioration on outdrives.

    My Century 190 is bad with wandering. 4 blade prop with trim down (if possible) helps but still there. Agree with small movements of wheel.

    I've a 1960 (300), 1965 (650) and 1975 (850). All have been good engines. The 300 and 650 have a magnito, which points are hard to find and expensive. The 850 has a distributor and switch box. Again expensive ignition parts if you can find them. Carburator parts (floats, gaskets, needle n seats)...

    I bought an electric fuel pump from eBay to move old fuel from my 30 gallon tank into 5 gallon can. Nope, never did work. Had to do the siphon thing, damn it tasted terrible. Three beers to rince my mouth.

    My 1948 Pontiac has 36 grease fittings and 6 needle fitting points. Offen thought of going to an Jiffy Lube (if they still exist) for a lube job and have the attendant count the fittings. Then send him back under if short.😊

    I kept boiling the battery with my 1975 850 Merc. Voltage gauge was running at 17 anywhere above half throttle. Installed a 6 wire regulator, voltage now steady at 14.5v. You'll have to get creative with mounting.

    I purchased an old pontoon boat to get the trailer and 850 (1975) Mercury. It also wouldn't idle slowly by ear (I didn't have a Tach). I did a link n sink and found that previous owner had the timing belt advanced one tooth. Timing sets the idle speed.

    A few years ago there was a detailed post with pictures showing how a member removed the filler/potting material, gaining access to solder posts for those wires. I should have saved the information but didn't. Might try searching the archives.

    Mine is a 1979 and uses glass tube fuses. Same symptoms, I checked Ignition fuse in place with ohm meter, OK. Checked while engaging starter, no voltage on engine side of fuse. Released starter and voltage returned to engine side of Ignition fuse. Pulled fuse, oxidized badly, cleaned, replaced...

    Being a 4 cylinder there should be room to get to starter lugs. To rule out starter, unhook both battery cables +. - Attached a good set of jumper cables neg to engine block positive to starter lug/bolt, attach pos jumper cable to pos battery post. Firmly touch neg jumper cable to neg battery...

    Pontoon I/O 140hp

    1st easy check, is there a rope wrapped around prop? My IO did and melted some of the rope into a disk between prop and lower unit, tearing the prop seal.
