    Need advice choosing an engine.

Hello, I have a 1992 Chaparral 2550XS with a base 330hp 454 with the peanut port heads. The engine has about 1400 hours on it and I can still get to 51mph on the GPS. According to the specs I can find online my boat weighs 5100lbs dry. I am considering pulling the engine to do some other...

Would a bad coupler make a noise like this?

Thanks. I am ashamed to say i havent pulled the drive yet. I keep it on a trailer at the marina an hour from my home and i signed a waiver that i am not supposed to wrench on it at the marina even though we all do small stuff. Pulling a drive may raise some eyebrows. Ill probably bring it...

Would a bad coupler make a noise like this?

Would a bad coupler make a noise like this?

I bought it in the spring of 2021 and paid a marina to replace the bellows that same spring. While they were in there I asked them to check the allignment, U-joints and gimbal bearing. Grease as necessary and change the oil in the drive. They gave it a clean bill of health. I have only put...

Would a bad coupler make a noise like this?

Hello all, I noticed this noise the other day coming from the coupler / gimbal bearing area of my boat. I hear the flappers ticking but there seems to be sort of a faint knocking also. The boat is a 1992 with 1400 hours on the original 7.4 / Bravo1 I see zerks on the coupler and I did give...

Buying a automotive engine to replace my mercruiser, need opinions

Good info here. So far I only have the cam specs listed in my first post from the GM Performance site. I don't think I would get a cam card unless it came with the engine if and when I purchase it. Let me ask you this. What marine cam would you recommend for a 502 in a 5000lbs cuddy with a...

Buying a automotive engine to replace my mercruiser, need opinions

What is different about the circulation pump that comes with the engine vs. a marine circulation pump? Stainless components? Here is the dyno graph for this 502

Buying a automotive engine to replace my mercruiser, need opinions

I have an older 25' cuddy which has the original 330hp 454 from 1992. She still gets up and goes and seems to have decent compression with minimal oil consumption but I was considering pulling the motor this winter and stroking it to 496 and throwing some better heads on it than the current...

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

I have a 2002 Chevy 2500 silverado with the 8.1 and I bought it new. I dont drive it every day but I I do drive it a lot. I managed to put 168,XXX miles in it so far and it seems to run fine. I don't change the oil every night. Which means it has had acid in the oil for 19 years now. I do...

    Winterizing question

you are probably right. I disconnected the hose from the pump and drained it. Why rear bench seats are not removable is beyond me.

    Winterizing question

1992 Chaparral 454 with a Bravo 1. I bought the boat 3 years ago and the previous 2 years I would begin winterizing by remove the drain plugs from the block and manifolds. Once the water stopped dripping I would Install the drain plugs and pull the water inlet hose off of the thermostat housing...

    surging after carb rebuild

Years ago I rebuilt a rochester on my 1986 silverado and once i got it adjusted it was running fine and then one day not too long after I did the rebuild I was driving home from work it started surging on the highway. I recall trying a few different things but what ultimately fixed it was me...

    Thru hull exhaust

    Is that a real picture?

    Thru hull exhaust

23" sounds about right. a 27" prop will bring those RPM's down a lot and make the boat harder to get up on plane.
