New intake and carb on Mercruiser 5.7

Re: New intake and carb on Mercruiser 5.7 I didn't change my manifold, but got rid of my old Q Jet. The engine would fade under a load had the Qjet rebuilt, but still no good. Put the 1409 on and bada boom bada bing, she ran great. Hope you have the same result.

    General opinion

Re: General opinion When I got my 1983 Albemarle 350, 280DP, I was trying to figure out which engine I had. I figured it was an original VP, later a Merc short block with all the VP stuff put back on. I could be wrong but it seemed to me that GM would make a bunch of short blocks, then VP or...

What is the best performing carb & intake for Mercruiser Vortec 5.7?

Re: What is the best performing carb & intake for Mercruiser Vortec 5.7? My 89 350 5.7L isn't vortec. I did however have much trouble with the old Q-Jet. I put on a 1409 Edelbrock with the adapter plate, reworked the linkage, and man ... it runs great!

    Winter Running

My 1983 Albe/ VP 5.7/260/350, is a work in progress. I've got it running really well now. My question is, are there any benefits or negatives to running in a tank under no load, during the winter months. Is there a carbon build up under no load? Is it less than good to run at idle or above for...

VP Morse Linkage To Edelbrock 1409

Instead of getting a rebuilt Q-Jet, I bought an Edelbrock 1409. So far it's an easy conversion. I'm not sure what to do now with the old Morse linkage, and how to make it work with Edelbrock. If any of you guys can help with this I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    What do I check next?

A while back this post was asking about a 260hp 350 merc not being able to sustain high rpm 3000+. I've had the same problem. I got a new fuel pump new coil, spark plugs and wires. It runs great at low rpms but than quits completely. Then bluecollarboater said he had the same prob and it ended...
