I have a 2001 Mercruiser 5.7 Vortec engine that I am working with. I am running the engine in a 20' bow rider. I was wondering what the best 4 Bar. Carb and intake combo would be?

Thanks for your input!

Ayuh,.... Mercruiser seems to think the GM mid-rise cast iron intake, like can be found at Michigan motors, with their Merc/ Weber AFB carb, which is a carbon copy of the Edlebrock performer series, is the answer...

I pretty much agree with 'em...

Should I go with the 1409 or 1410 Edelbrock?

Is this the intake you are thinking?

5.7L & 5.0L - 4 bbl. Hi-Rise Vortec Intake Manifold - Indmar (1996-Current)

Thanks!

According to Holley's website, a stock 5.7 marine motor only needs a 600 cfm carb. Unless you use a different camshaft and change the valve train where the engine runs at much higher rpm's, exotic manifolds and carbs might just be a waste of money.

But if you're building the motor, I believe Comp Cams and Lunati Cams in Memphis has specific marine grind camshafts. They may be worth the investment.

Anyway it goes, marine use takes a high torque/low rpm motor--generally speaking.

Good luck!

My 89 350 5.7L isn't vortec. I did however have much trouble with the old Q-Jet. I put on a 1409 Edelbrock with the adapter plate, reworked the linkage, and man ... it runs great!fall 004.jpg
