Are the gauges reading what they're supposed to when the engine isn't running? If not make sure you check all the pins on the harness. one could be snapped or corroded and need replacing.
I did a quick google search and it seems like your not alone. Try taking it apart and check for water on any electronics and that should be your issue. If not replace the switch. If its not neither of those then my guess is its mechanical. I just searched "motorguide ef76v trolling motor wont...
First check the voltage drop at the start motor. If it's 0 v. then check for continuity at across the solenoid. I've had it happen a few times that the contacts in the solenoid will go bad from over use and you'll hear the click but its not completing the circuit inside. If that's good then its...
Thanks for the response! Was it price and/or availability that made you switch from your old repair guy or something else? Also what are somethings you like about your current repair shop?
Thank you for the response. I'm definitely thinking more about starting out mobile. My Dad mentioned about joining the local chamber of commerce would be a good resource to help get the business going as well.
If your boat has a battery switch for your electronics battery then just turn it off when your done boating. If it doesn't then install one between the electronics battery wires and the breaker/fuse box and the negative bus. I wasn't super clear if it will drain underway but if it is your...
Not a bad idea I had thought about that, I would need to do some more research on the market where I plan to start up. I plan to open in NC or SC. still looking at areas at the moment. I'd also thought about adding dockside repairs to the business as a service option for a little more cost. I'm...
I've had like this with a boat before. Check for a voltage drop across your starter. IF there is no voltage drop then try turning the engine over and see if you get continuity across the solenoid. If it reads O/L the replace the solenoid and it should be fine.
Side note: I saw you mentioned a...
First off check any fuses and/or breakers if you haven't already. If it wasn't any of those check the negative bus(the negative wire from the battery switch should lead to that). Make sure its not super corroded. If it is that's probably the issue in which case it should be replaced. If its...
I am currently an electrician in the Coast Guard. I currently do a lot of work on 29' meta sharks and 25' foot Boston Whalers. I plan to start a marine electrical and mechanical repair business when my contract is up in a few years. I am enrolling in school for a business degree with a...
