I bought a pontoon boat that has a Mercury Classic 50 on it and the previous owner put a whale tail on the motor . Will that help or harm the performance of the boat ?
I have a 1987 mercury classic 50 on a pontoon boat that has some issues. In the water the boat had a lack of power. I took the carbs off , top carb had no fuel in bowel. I replaced the needles on both carbs and cleaned them. Noticed the bottom carb didin't have the air bleed jet in it so I...
I tapped the bushing and replaced the o ring. I also replaced the prop shaft seal and of coarse the gear case cover gasket. I don't have a way to test under pressure , but used my vacume tool and it held 20hg for at least 5 minutes so I think that's a well sealed unit.
I ordered the gasket , O ring for the front gear case seal and shifter rod o ring. can't find the shifter rod screw washer. I would like to replace the water pump but can't find a good part number. Where does the shifter rod o ring go, it looks like just a brass bushing ?
Just check the shift linkage , everything was good . Dropped lower unit and found the shifter dog and forward gear edges rounded off. The oil was a milkshake. I am going to replace the waterpump and gaskets and hope that seals it up. I found a new forward gear but I am having a problem finding...
Hi I got my 1960 10hp started today runs great but when you put it in forward it jumps out of gear. I think the clutch dogs are bad. Had that happen on 7.5 . I am going to try and take it apart in the next couple days. Anything I should check before I take it apart ?

Hi All On to my next issue. I have a 1960 10hp Evinrude and the choke lever won't stay out. I looked at the linkage and it all seems to be there, but it wont stay out. Is there supposed to be a spring clip or something on it? Not sure what I should be looking for...
Hi I have 3 older Evinrude outboards a 1967 3hp, 1960 10hp and a 1955 7.5hp. My question is this, what is the best gas/oil mixture for these motors ? I have read that 24:1 is the most preferred mixture . With the modern oils out there should I change from that ? I am going to be using the...
Hi I just got a 1967 Evinrude 3 horse and need to know what size fuel line goes on it. 1/4 inch is to big so my next guess would be 3/16 , would that be correct ? Also did these motors have a fuel filter on them ? would it be a good idea to put one on or won't it make a difference ?
Congratulations to F_R . I pulled the exhaust cover today and found two holes in it . Now the question is where can I get a new baffel plate and a gasket Thanks again guys for pointing me in the right direction.
