    1989 2.5L (not 3.0) mercruiser crankshaft pulley

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... The 2.5l doesn't have a harmonic balancer,(the 3.0l does, the 2.5l has just a pulley) so my guess is the rubber you found came from the v-belt itself,..... Are the pulleys clean, 'n smooth, or rusty,..?? ditto what cwella just posted, while I was typing,....

    Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... Start at the battery, check, 'n clean the connections, both ends of both(+, 'n -) sides,.... If the starter engages, try starting it,.... If not, break out the test light, 'n figure out where the power stops,......

    Ayuh,...... Just as with the older drives, you fill it to the bottom of the top plug, which leaves an air space at the top, for thermal expansion,....

    Ayuh,...... With numbers like that, you have a rebuildable core, not a viable runner,........ A new/ rebuilt motor will be 'bout 150 psi across the board,....

    Ayuh,..... If yer still running the original trim pump, you need the reverse lock,..... Otherwise, anymore than idle in reverse the drive jumps up high,...... I switched to a newer plastic tanked pump, which has a built-in reverse lock,....

    Ayuh,.... In my experiences, on a cold start, it'll come in that high, then settle down to 13.6 volts,....

    Ayuh,..... I agree with BD on the cause,..... I'd just use rags to do the clean up, 'n the gimble bearing, Could be greaseable, or sealed,.... donno which, both have been around for awhile,.....
