E90TLESB - Son-In-Law's boat. Runs good but has to squirt Premix!

RacerOne! Yes, somewhat new toy. He bought at the end of last season (2020), Took to a shop first and asked to check / evaluate. Plug change is all that occurred. Thanks so much for the valuable information as I now know where to start!

E90TLESB - Son-In-Law's boat. Runs good but has to squirt Premix!

Dingbat! Thanks for the photo. The OMC oil I used years ago was blue. He said there was an oil bottle in the boat (pontoon) but the label was missing. I passed the photo along. Thanks again!

E90TLESB - Son-In-Law's boat. Runs good but has to squirt Premix!

Racerone - again this is Son-In-Laws's boat aquired beginning the past season and trying to help him out. Thank you for your response. What does "Pushing the Key in" do? Is that a priming function? Also, 7/16 is huge! I always heard 1/4 maybe 5/16. Is it known that this engine needs 7/16 spark...

E90TLESB - Son-In-Law's boat. Runs good but has to squirt Premix!

Runs good but has to squirt Premix in one or more carbs to get started and runs fine rest of the trip. Before this problem, had serviced and shop stated just wrong plugs. Son-In-Law mentioned oil in reservior is pink - that was my first suspicion. When he bought the boat, there were a lot of...

    Shopping for cordless impact driver

Like to hear opinions on the best cordless impact driver. There are quite a few choices out there. I'm leaning toward Hitachi mainly because of "Covered by Hitachi's lifetime LI-ION tool warranty ". What is the benefit of "Brushless motor". I'm also leaning towards 20v Li-ION. But I see on...

Tool ignorance - impact & compressor

I was hoping folks could help me understand. I have an old Snap-On heavy duty impact. Feels like it weighs 6 pounds. I have a regular Craftsman 20 gallon 110 psi compressor. Some of the most difficult nuts I like to use the impact for, like say your car lug nuts, the impact is not so effective...

    Boats sinking recently

I am on a blog that has to do with Ohio River boating. Boats (at least 1/2 dozen) have sunk in recent weeks and seems to have been since the polar vortex. I am not familiar with mooring a boat year round and frankly, can't imagine doing it. However, a couple of them were house boats of sorts so...

Spun prop - mark hub question

I've been curious about the speed of my boat for quite a few years. It's a '90 model 18 foot - 4.3, 205 hp. I bought new, always garage kept and motor running condition is flawless. When new, would do 55 mph but over time, speed has been dropping. I have never taken it over 4200 rpm and speedo...

Lower Unit gear oil screws (2 of them) 1991 Johnson 25 HP

Re: Lower Unit gear oil screws (2 of them) 1991 Johnson 25 HP It's unfortunate that you took the phillips screw out. Lower unit has to come off to get it back together. As far as the Stainless drain and fill screws - use a large screwdriver that fits the slot in the screw well. And use a screw...

    Winterizing OMC Cobra 3.0

Re: Winterizing OMC Cobra 3.0 That stupid screw will not be Stainless Steel. It's behind a sticker, but old stickers wear off. Look at attachment. I don't think any 3.0s had PWR steering cooler, but just look for any BRASS petcocks. unscrew the "T" and run some wire up in there to clear any...

1981 johnson 35 hp help please

Re: 1981 johnson 35 hp help please The "charging" wire is spliced into your hot battery cable. The stator (under flywheel) produces AC voltage and wired to rectifier. Rectifier changes voltage to DC. "Charge" wire will be the red one. Rectifier looks like the Round thing in this pic.

    Couple of rectifier questions......

Re: Couple of rectifier questions...... Although this diagram is for a smaller motor, it may help. Looking at the diagram, there is a red wire coming from the stator to the terminal block. It screws down on another red wire leading down stream through your cable harness / battery. That is what...

    1992 johnson rectifier wiring

Re: 1992 johnson rectifier wiring A possible place for your battery ground - on my 15 hp, there is a threaded hole on the lower part of the bracket mount (don't know what it's called) in the pic. Look for the red arrow. Use a star washer. After posting, you can't see the arrow, but it's the...

    Checking outdrive fluid/oil...

Re: Checking outdrive fluid/oil... You simply loosen (not remove) the drain plug at very bottom. What seeps out should be a bit transparent, not milky, If milky, it has water in it. You lose some oil when doing this. always check at dip stick to see if you need to "top off".
