Motor only bogs down when hot. For the first 15 mins runs perfect and then bogs down, and will occasionaly return to normal throughout the day (maybe once or twice usually after resting (after fishing for a while).
Read on a forum that if a outboard suffers from bogging down at the medium to...
We started off the day yesterday with the boat reaching speeds of about 12 knots which was fine but after an hour or so the motor would only push the boat at 4/5 knots at full throttle?
There was no stuttering/hesitiation whatsoever only struggling

Frozen tilt tube
Hi
Edit: I maybe using the wrong terminology here: Basically the motor is stuck as is in the down position will not move an inch vertically at all. I am not actually sure if the motor pivots on that steering tube or not?
Wondering what the best way to address frozen tilt...
Hi all
I have an old 1974 Mercury 40hp 402, 2-Stroke, the motor has good compression. (the power output is adequate for my boat)
I was wondering if I was to upgrade to a motor that is 10 years old rather than 40+ years old what to expect.
As this is the only outboard I have ever owned other...
Hi
I have an old 1974 Mercury 402 which has become difficult (very stiff) to turn left or right.
What happened was the motor was stored on the back of the boat and the cover was leaking of which i was unaware.
I disconnected the steering linkage to the steering wheel and with just the motor...
Hi
The steering bracket on my 1974 Mercury 402 snapped. The part on the motor that the steering arm bolts to.
Any idea on how to remove it? There seems to be two bolts that were tight but when loosened they just spin freely and dont thread out.
Must any other parts from the motor be removed...
Have a question about a Mercury 50hp I picked up, was advertised as for parts or repair, the wiring is in excellent condition and overall was much better than I expected before collection, 3 cylinder.
With the plugs out and looking into the plug holes what should I see? Cylinder No. 1 is very...
Re: Johnson 4hp simple question
Since posting I found this picture online:
Don't have my motor to hand its in the boat 200 miles away! From the pic there does not seem to be a 6 o'clock position. As I recall there is a 12 o'clock position and a 3 o'clock one and pushed in / pulled out.
As...
Hi
I a have a simple question re a 1996 4hp Johnson serial: BJ4BREDS
I order a manual a few weeks ago still has not arrived.
Could anyone let me know the position that the cut off and choke lever should be in for start up (decals missing)
It pulls out and turns 90 degrees to the right...
Hi
I changed my boat (but using previous motor Mercury 402, Serial 9034098) and am now changing from the cable type steering to the extendible rod (think its called rack and pinion, new to this trying to learn the correct terminology)
Got the arm from a local dealer.
the steering works...
Hi
I've picked up a non running seized Mercury 50hp outboard for next to nothing.
Was wondering what the first step I should take is?
I'd imagine it should remove the spark plugs (place engine spark plug end facing upwards) and pour a freeing solution down in the cylinders.
Is this correct...
Hi
Was out in the boat over the weekend and the motor kept starving of fuel. It would bog down when I try to accelerate and the primer bulb would have to be pumped to keep the motor running
Works fine when I start up the motor after priming but dies when trying to accelerate. (some times will...
Hi
Can't seem to understand why the needle on my 4hp bj4breds doesnt thread onto anything? this seem right.
The actual needle has threads on it but doesnt thread anywhere
the collar in which it goes into has no threads
Serial number: BJ4BREDS
Turned tiller throttle and something popped from the engine, which wasn't running. Was given the engine and have never had her running!
Now the throttle cable is loose.
any ideas what might have popped off
