Got it, I'll check with the thermometer.
And that makes sense .. I feel like an idiot, but at least I did just rebuild and service the entire outdrive. I will make sure I don't do that again! 🤦🏼♂️
Is it OK to store it with it trailered up all the way? As I don't imagine the strain on the...
So an IR temp gun on thermostat housing should read 160?
Yikes, it was up all the way as it's trailered but I guess I should drop it down when starting it on muffs 🤦🏼♂️ I never thought about that. Is it because it could cut off water supply?
Thank you for the heads up.
Hi all,
I just replaced my thermostat (Merc, 160F) and gaskets on my 5.0 MPI and then ran it on muffs to test my water distribution housing after fixing it with JB marine weld (success!).
After getting up to temp, my gauge levels out just above the 175 mark. Assuming it isn't supposed to go...
Hi all,
Back again with yet another issue. Late start to the season for me but started it off with a hull repair and water distribution housing repair.
Just as I'm about to get water ready (finally) for the season I remembered I also had a PS leak. Reservoir is nearly empty and by "feel" it...
Late start to the season here for me and just got around to dealing with this. I just removed the water distribution housing and it is indeed cracked, right where the plug threads in (underneath). After seeing the replacement part was $460+tax I decided to have a go at fixing it. I took a mini...
Hi all,
Back again with another issue! If anyone has been following along my other threads I have now essentially rebuilt the outdrive as well as both trim cylinders. Took the boat out 2 days ago for one last ride and to get the stabilizer moving through. Everything ran as it should! The...
Yeah I turned it a bunch before, extremely smooth, like butter, with no play in any direction. Visibly looks brand new. Except now it just doesn't spin as easily, literally immediately after I pumped the new QS Extreme grease through (think a "lighter" grease was previously used? Was bright blue...
Awesome, this is great news. Pretty sure there wasn't any protection on the previous either. Thank you sir!
I have a couple of other unrelated questions that I just ran into. Getting ready to reassemble the outdrive after doing all maintenance (and beyond) - I pumped QS Extreme grease (as per...
That makes me feel better! So in other words, the way I have it should be fine?
Thank you!
Edit: also, I imagine the protective sheath goes right where it's in contact with the Y pipe here?
I was going based off of this image but then realized maybe I missed going around the starboard rear engine mount. The part I have circled is the area in question as it seems it's very difficult to see the mount. And in the picture it's cut off so I didn't even realize it at first.
