    Distribution housing leak?

Hi all, Back again with another issue! If anyone has been following along my other threads I have now essentially rebuilt the outdrive as well as both trim cylinders. Took the boat out 2 days ago for one last ride and to get the stabilizer moving through. Everything ran as it should! The...

    Lower shift cable routing

Yeah I turned it a bunch before, extremely smooth, like butter, with no play in any direction. Visibly looks brand new. Except now it just doesn't spin as easily, literally immediately after I pumped the new QS Extreme grease through (think a "lighter" grease was previously used? Was bright blue...

    Lower shift cable routing

Awesome, this is great news. Pretty sure there wasn't any protection on the previous either. Thank you sir! I have a couple of other unrelated questions that I just ran into. Getting ready to reassemble the outdrive after doing all maintenance (and beyond) - I pumped QS Extreme grease (as per...

    Lower shift cable routing

That makes me feel better! So in other words, the way I have it should be fine? Thank you! Edit: also, I imagine the protective sheath goes right where it's in contact with the Y pipe here?

    Lower shift cable routing

I was going based off of this image but then realized maybe I missed going around the starboard rear engine mount. The part I have circled is the area in question as it seems it's very difficult to see the mount. And in the picture it's cut off so I didn't even realize it at first.

    Lower shift cable routing

    Oh yes, sorry, it's a 2007 Chaparral 210 SSi, 5.0 Merc with Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive

    Lower shift cable routing

Hi all, back again with a new thread. This time I'm tackling the lower shift cable assembly. I actually did research ahead and ran a fishing line as a guide, but when backing the old shift jacket nut out the tension sucked it right back in.. it was crazy and I felt all hope slip from my hands...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

That is fortunate! Was it a bad seal or how did you fix the leak?

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Thank you! This is exactly what I did, I meant to update yesterday. I just ran the trim up til empty with the cylinder hoses in a bucket, then down til empty. Refilled with fresh ATF, ran up and down til empty again 2x then refilled once more and now I'm waiting for my seal kits to reinstall the...

    Bellows Installation

I don't have much to offer for help besides this, I just did this yesterday (replaced the bell housing bushings & seals) and spent a fair bit of time trying to find out which orientation the seals are to be installed. According to the diagram posted by Don, post #11 in this thread - the seals...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Update on progress - I picked up a heavier duty adjustable "pin wrench" with different sized pin fittings. Finally got the end cap off and completely disassembled both cylinders. I will be going ahead and replacing all the seals since I've made it this far. Thanks everyone for your input! Next...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Just want to confirm what I've read is accurate - can I use this ATF for my trim fluid? Thanks all again!

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

This might just be the route I end up taking, at this point. I'd say that's possible as the boat did sit unused for a while, though the tank itself is fairly high up from the bottom of the hull which makes me think it's unlikely water would've it made it that high. Thanks again!

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Thanks Bondo! Anything to keep them from seizing like they were would be a plus 😅 Perhaps you could shed some light on this comment as it has me a bit stumped and unsure of parts I should be acquiring: "I imagine the end cap has some sort of "permanent" seal (aka not replaceable without...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Yes that's correct, just like a brake line. You think it's a concern that some sealer might get in the fluid if I put it on the threads? I manually "emptied" the cylinders but when I got the first one open there was still a little bit left in there. Does this make heat a poor idea? Thank you!

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Great point! Luckily, I think by chance (and since I have the boat on the trailer) it's trimmed up all the way to begin with. I didn't have any high pressure issues in removing the lines, in fact very little fluid came out of the lines themselves when I removed them (and then none when I removed...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Sounds like a successful mission! I have an adjustable grinder flange nut tool and the first end cap came off SO easily (maybe part of the concern here even?) but the 2nd one won't budge. I have the cylinder in a bench vice even and using a hollow steel tube on the flange nut tool for leverage...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Thank you and thank you! So you would use this even on the bolts connecting the lower to upper, for example? I was thinking of putting some 2-3-C on them but wasn't sure if that's appropriate. Also (since I have it on-hand), would permatex aviation form-a-gasket be an acceptable alternative to...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Thank you for the prompt responses! Ahh yes the flare nut wrench would've been the way 🤦🏼‍♂️ even with the socket it was quite difficult to remove but I will definitely keep this in mind for next time. Is there anything I could apply to the fasteners without ill effect that will aid in removal...

    Trim cylinder hose replacement

Hi all, I'm new here but have used the forum a ton while working on the outdrive of my boat (2007 Chaparral 210 SSi - Alpha One Gen 2). Amazing content and extremely helpful people here. Onto my issue(s) - My outdrive was showing quite a bit of paint flaking/some corrosion so I've undertaken a...
