I have been researching drain tubes for my resto and cant figure which way to go. Need some suggestions or thoughts from those who have used either or both. My boat had the plastic ones that are two piece, one long end with male threads and a female "cap". Now they look like CRAP and are far...
Well, I read a lot of threads that have July 4th as their deadlines and while I was sweating in mine in the garage I was thinking of all you guys and whether you made it or not? Lets here the tale!
Guys, I finally got to fiberglass this weekend! It was MUCH better than grinding. I feel I did an excellent job on it too. 8 yards of 1708 and 15' of 8oz cloth tape and No air bubbles whatsoever. I will post an update in my thread soon.
ANyhow, on to my question, I have built the transom out...
When redoing a transom do you want to leave a gap al the way around the new plywood? I was planning to bed in cabosil thickened epoxy but I dont know if this is neccasary on the sides as well. What thickness of a gap do you want on the bottom and if needed, on the sides?
I believe that I would...
Guys, I have a 1 1/2" thick transom that is being replaced. Here is my question, is it better(stronger) in anyway to use 3 sheets of 1/2" rather than 2 sheets of 3/4"? I have the 1/2 alrady dried but it would not be the end of the world to go with 3/4". What are your thoughts?

but I have a full length center stringer. Is it possible to make bulkheads fore and aft of the tank and carry the center stringer towards the bow from there? Will this...
I would like to preface this thread with a warning about epoxy resin. After 5 months of working with it I have developed a sensitivity to it. THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON, MOST WILL DEVELOP IT. Please protect yourself from it while using it so that you are able to use and enjoy such a great product...
This is a 74 merc 1500 o/b serial number 3753595. Well, after rebuilding everything on the motor I was putting everything back together and decided that while I was at it I would go ahead and replace the exhaust cover gaskets just to be thorough. THis is what I found! Now this motor ran, had...
Does anyone know the size of the fuel lines for this motor? I need to replace them and I will be going to the store after work and I forgot the ones that I took off at home. I would really like to not have to go home to get them. TIA.
Does anyone know which sensor and gauge I will need for this motor? I beleive that it would hook up to the capped fitting at the top of the water jacket, looks to be a 3/8" fitting. TIA.
You guys have any thought on these? I was planning to use one on my 74 1500 due to the fact that mine didnt come with one. I have replaced the stator so I actually have the two leads now...the one on the motor originally had the wires corroded and not reusable. I will be doing this tonight if...
I am about to order all my supplies for my floor redo. I went and bought two sheets of 1/2" ACX ply last night and have the heater blowing on it. I have ripped the deck off, removed the motor and ordered all the replacement parts for it. Then this weekend I will be starting on removing the cap...
I have a 1974 1500 and the maual says to only use a tack that is stated to work with the thunderbolt ign system. What type tach should I look for? Will any other types work?
I am ordering a carb rebuild kit from oldmercs.com and am wondering if anyone knows if it contains the spring on top of the float? I have the white plastic floats in the carbs now and I think they are fine? Should you replace them when rebuilding carbs? The top carb leaks fuel while running.
