Afternoon,
I have a 1970 25 hp Johnson on a homebuilt flat bottom skiff, approximate weight 350-400 lbs. With me in it (225 lbs) I have seen a max of 20 mph. When I have anyone else in the boat, the best I see is 16 mph.
I have the chance to get a 35 hp 1979 Johnson for a decent price and...
I am switching the prop on my 1970 25 hp Johnson. If I tighten it to the point where it is snug, I am having problems getting the cotter pin in. If I back it off a half turn, I can get the pin in easily, but there is some play. Is that ok, or should it be snug? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks...
Evening,
Tried the search but did not find what I was looking for, so here goes...
I have a 1970 25 hp Johnson that runs really well, but I would like a little more power. I don't want to add any weight to the stern of my boat if not neccessary. I know some outboards can be converted to put...
Longtime lurker here...Finished up my first boat build at the end of the summer. Finally get 'er done and there's no water!:grumpy:

I have a '70 25 hp Johnson with metal 6 gallon can. I am not getting fuel to the carbs using the bulb. I replaced the connector to the motor that was loose, but still nothing. Pumping the bulb does not do anything, am wondering if the bulb is the problem. What steps should i take to solve...
I am about to cut down the transom on my first boat build. I'm mounting a 1970 Johnson 25 hp (short shaft tiller) and the water intake is right below the cavitation plate. Should i still line up the cavitation plate with the botton of the transom, or go a little lower to make sure i get water...
I am close to finishing my first boat build. It is a flat bottom skiff, 15' by 5'6". Built stitch and glue style. I am thinking about using a non skid finish on the entire inside of the boat, including sides and benches. Any downsides to this?
Thanks

I have almost finished refinishing the cowling on my 1970 25 hp Johnson, and want to tackle the rest of the motor next.
How much do i need to take apart? More importantly how do i do it!
Thanks

Morning,
Have searched and found lots of information on this subject...thanks! Have a couple of specific questions i couldn't find the answer to. I have a '70 25 hp Johnson that i want to paint.
1) The cowling is some sort of plastic/composite. The PO painted it (over the dealer decals...

Picked up a 1970 25 hp tiller Johnson. Model # 25RL70E that at some point had the lower unit changed to a short shaft. I have a couple of questions that i know you can answer!
1) I think the proper fuel mixture (from searching here) is 50:1. What oil would be the best option, and...
I am building a 15' flat bottom skiff that i will eventually need to get a trailer for. What is the method to figuring out what trailer would work. Up to now i have just looked for a bunk trailer that is listed for a 15' boat by the seller. I think i am limiting my scope by doing this...

Been working on buying an old Johnson tiller motor and when i checked it out it had water dripping out of the back of the motor and a weak pea stream out of the exaust. The owner had his mechanic neighbor (who has done all the tune up/repair work on the motor) take a look and here is...
Can anyone please direct me to some instructions to test compression on a outboard? I want to at least act like i know what i'm doing!
Thanks,

Afternoon everyone,
Looked at a '70 johnson 25 hp tiller, short shaft today. The guy ran it for me and it seemed to run smooth and the engine looked clean and in good shape, but noticed a couple of things that i need your help to see what i am seeing. I am a complete novice at boat motors...
What things should i look for when buying an older outboard without getting to run it? It is a 60's evinrude 5 hp, and from the pictures, looks in good cosmetic shape. I do not know very much about outboards, but at the price i'm willing to take a chance at this one. I would like to know the...
