    Mercury powerhead???

    What would cause a piston to seize in the cylinder if the engine did not show HOT on temp gauge? Mercury 200 Black Max

    88 Mercury Black Max Powerhead

    Engine was idling along, running cool when it seemed to run out of gas or either bog down. Now cannot turn over. Could it likely be lower unit? Can still turn prop in neutral. Do I need to drop lower unit to verify not it or would this not be a probable cause?

    Replaced water pump, poppet valve, and thermostats and engine was running cool. I was idling along and engine sounded like it run out of gas or bogged down. Would not turn over after that. Cant turn engine with flywheel? What happened? Was running cool and fine!!!! :mad:

    Will poppet valve on 88 200 Black max mercury cause water pressure to drop to 0 at 4500 rpms if it were bad? What would cause water pressure to be 0 at idling then rise to 10 with rpm increase and then fall back to 0 at 4500 rpms?

    overheating and loss of pressure
