I am about to rebuild the lower unit for my 59 5.5hp johnson
should I use some kind of gasket sealer for the water pump base
gasket and on the seal for the skeg?

FR double checked it today it is 65 which from what I read last night would be 56, the knob through the side of the case could be a fuel shut off. Will try to get a gasket and impeller to put in before I try and start it since I have no idea other than a few years...
I just inherited a 5hp sea king model gg9002A sn 6sx6081xx from a friends 90yr old
father. It supposedly was rebuilt several years
ago run twice and then hung on a bracket on the garage wall.
Appears to have good compression and be in pretty good shape few scratches but no noticeable ]...
I have a 1958 QD-19 10hp that runs great only thing that bugs me is the way it swings around if you let go of the tiller
it will instantly turn one way or the other. Is there a way to adjust it? My 5.5 and mercury 9.8 will hold pretty steady
so think something is off a bit.

Does anyone know are the recoils the same on the 58 and 59 10hp QD series? The one on my 58
has several cracks in it and am afraid they are growing but still works at the moment. Found someone
that has a 59 recoil for sale and wondering if it will work.

I have both a QD-19 and CD-16 I have read everyone suggesting 24:1 so have that information and the tank is spotless with new hoses etc. Any one have a suggestion as to what oil is the best to use? In the past have used several different ones including lawnboy oil.

I had a pretty good leak from the gasket when tank was pressureized so am rebuilding the tank.
The question is do I need to put some kind of sealer to use between the tank and the handle assembly?
The motor has been in storage about 2 1/2 years. I just rebuilt the fuel pump and carb., replaced plugs, spark is great on both cylinders starts and runs smooth pumps water good and shifts smooth.
The thing I am concerned about is a leak below the fly wheel it smells like fuel oozing out and...
I am trying to get the lower unit off of my model 60 that was just given to me and
was told still had the original impeller. I have tried everything I can think of it will drop
down about 3/4" and then sticks will not come off any further.
My model 110 (9.8) comes right off, Any suggestions?
