Inspecting 2002 Tracker 125 HP Outboard

The Tracker 125 is a Mercury outboard with "Tracker" decals. The 125hp is a four cylinder two stroke that runs on two cylinders till it hits 1800 rpms, called a 2+2.

    1988 Merc 200hp acting squirrelly

Got a 1988 200hp Merc V6 2.4, today when I went for a ride it kind of hesitated when I was accelerating through the mid range, when I decelerated it slowed down then sped up, It repeated this behavior when I tried it again. It goes full speed fine and starts right up.

Got a 1975 Johnson 25hp with weak spark in the bottom cylinder. Does that usually mean a coil issue or a points issue?

    Overrated Horsepower?

I have read that most outboards produced in the 70's and early 80's were sold with higher horsepower numbers than they actually produced( i.e. the Merc 50 was actually 45hp, the 80 only 75hp), was this true with the Merc V6's also? I've found a good running 1980 Merc 175 and was curious if it...

Is switching to Aftermarket reeds worth it?

I have a 1988 Mercury 200hp carb V6, she idles a little rough and I currently have her on a Hydrostream ski boat. It was suggested to me to try high performance reeds, that the back in the day all these Merc guys were putting in Boyesen reeds for better performance... anyone here have any...

Yet another V6 Merc question: voltage regulator?

This Franken Merc I have doesn’t have a voltage regulator on it. The best I can tell it’s a mid eighties xr2 block and whoever rebuilt it put all new aftermarket electronics on, stator, switch boxes, rectifier…but no voltage regulator. I’ve been running it for a few weeks now with no...
