My 1987/88? 90hp has always put out high voltage. 20 volt AC to the input side of the rectifier and 15-16 VDC on the output side. This was typical of my original 9 amp stater and my red 9 amp replacement in 2001. I do not have a regulator. Has never caused me any problems and I'm still on my...
I think the diameter of the tilt tube is the same because I still have the original (ride-glide?) steering on the boat. If I remember correctly, the swivel bracket is narrower on the older motors. Thinking I could use some sort spacer to keep it centered on the tilt tube.
Spiders or bees have stuffed mud into my telltale many times. I keep a piece of stainless steel wire in my boat just for that reason. It can (and has) been used for many other fixes too.
When my 1988 motor with 1400 hours quits, I'm considering putting a 1970 refurbished motor back on my 1970 boat. The only thing I want to avoid is drilling holes in my rebuilt transom do to the fact that the brackets will have different bolt patterns. Has anyone ever swapped out a newer bracket...
35 years and 1600+ hrs. on my oil pump. Replaced hoses with clear Tygon about 20 years ago and oil tank about 15 years ago because oil alert float switch failed.
Are you getting any voltage to the switch box from the stator while cranking the engine? That would be between the red and black, then the blue and black wires. No need to disconnect wires for test.
Keep a close eye on your electrolyte levels too. Especially in cells 1 & 6. I have gotten as many as 13 seasons out of a battery with the same charging set up you had. It was a Sears marine battery.
Found my problem late summer. #2 high speed jet was plugged with white stuff, looked like calcium. Cleaned jet, checked the other two, and all is back to normal. This boat and motor are my off season, cold water ride. Summer months are for the skiboat.
Thanks for the advice. I plan on DVA reading again on the hose, then on the lake. I am suspicious of the coils and took a good look at them and meter readings. My brother has same coils packs in his low hour V-6, perhaps he will let me try them. I did replace the 32 year old plug wires, no help.
Trying to get someone out there with me on a calm day so I can take some DVA readings at speed. Are you referring to the primer bulb when you say manual fuel pump?
