That is the way I would do it too. However, I was thinking that if still does not start as expected yet all else is good, to try an experiment. At the next cold start do only one stroke and start. And if no joy, then at the next cold start try 2, etc. Just an idea, perhaps a crazy one…
I am hoping others can join here as I do not have expensive experience with these carbs but I will keep trying to help. First off, I think I was mistaken on the blue circle being the choke pull off… in looking at the picture closer it looks like a lock out for the Secondary Air Valve to keep it...
The last time I played with a Rochester Quadrajet was decades ago, so I am not the best to advise but let’s try some basic things on the carb.
Check to determine if the Secondary Air Valve is stuck. The device to rotate is the item the red arrow points to in the picture. You may have to remove...
To aid in the discussion its helpful to make sure there is common terminology. With this carb there are a total of four “plates”: the (1) Primary Throttle Plate, (2) the Secondary Throttle Plate, (3) the Choke Plate and (4) the Secondary Air Valve (this may not be the correct term, but useful...
Goose,
You need to buy a lottery ticket as your luck has to change!
I am catching up a bit. From your post no. 35:
I am not the expert in on the water flow of these engines, but I believe your risers and manifolds are not fed by the t-stat, there is continuous water flow thru them regardless...
In reading thru this thread, it appears that checking the working of the accelerator pump has not been done. If true, then do this simple test:
Let the boat sit for a day or more… i.e. the same condition for when you experience a no start unless you spray gas into the carb but do not try to...
First off, your gas cap is not the issue. And I am glad you are investigating the rot issue. I found this on the web of doing a restore of a Capri link. He has a whole series of doing a restore. I only watched the episode of the gas tank removal. Frisco Boater (link) also has the best...
Agree with AllDodge. This is flange head bolt which is typically used in those applications and the fact that this one has that wasp waist indicates it was worn down over time > the bolt came slightly loose, and the vibrations of the pump / alt wore it down until someone replaced it. Check every...
Here is what I found on the web for a 1750 Capri which is same as or close to what you have. The tank is forward of the engine and between the seats as you expressed. See picture. Sounds like the Previous Owner (PO) simply laid down a piece of ply on top of a rotted deck.
While the focus of...
Sounds like there are a few things going on here and maybe more.
If the engine was flooded out by ‘pressurizing’ the gas tank and its been a day or so, that should have evaporated by now. So, let’s start at the beginning.
Post filing your tank and noticing gas spitting out of your vent when...
Follow up: you are already probably aware, but stuff all the cylinders and other holes, ports with paper towels / rags to protect getting the scrapings in places you do not want them. And no power or other tools that can remove the base metal. :)
