Ignition Master Switch Replacement, Dual Inboards

This is a 1979 Cruisers Villavee 288 with Dual Mercruiser 228 MIE engines. The previous owner of my boat, for whatever reason, had the on/off ignition key replaced with a regular switch. I'd like to put a keylock back in, but I'm having trouble finding the correct type of switch. That starters...

    1979 28' Cruisers VillaVee Project

On to the next project boat! This one's been loved (for a change)! She came with the full original "Skipper's Kit" including manuals for all equipment and chock full of receipts for service, repairs, and parts all the way back to '79. New ignition, distributors, starters, impellers...

1957 Evinrude Fleetwin Dies After 15 Seconds

Hi again guys. My next project is this lovely old Fleetwin, going to put it on the dinghy. When I first started it up, it seemed to run well and would have kept going, but there was no water pumping out so I popped the powerhead off, dropped the LU and replaced the impeller. Next, ran great for...

    1967 100HP Johnson Exhaust/Autochoke Question

This is a V4TL-13 model. I notice on the back of the engine coming out of the rear cover are two fittings, as seen in the photo of the motor mid-disassembly. When assembled, the top one goes to the autochoke on the carb. The bottom one wasn't connected to anything when I purchased the motor...

    1967 100HP Johnson Water Temp/Pressure Gauge Install

Hi Again Everyone. This is on my V4TL-13. I've got the motor all torn down for the Winter rebuild. It's been fun discovering all the ins and outs. Here are a few pics. This last photo is with the water cavity access panel removed after pulling the flywheel. I was happy to see no garbage...

Do I really need a barrel or will a direct hose connection suffice?

I have a 1967 Johnson V4TL-13 100hp Outboard Motor. For running in the driveway, do I really need to have a barrel of water, or can I just remove the intake screen and hose clamp the garden hose right to the copper inlet pipe? And if I need a barrel, do I need the testing prop indicated in the...

    1967 Johnson 100hp V4TL-14 Needs Tach

Can someone tell me if I need to use a specific kind of tachometer for this engine? The installed one doesn't appear to have worked in a looong time, and it sure would be nice to have a working one. I see some old teleflex tachs for cheap on ebay, but not sure if they will even work. Thanks!

1967 100HP Johnson Runs Better with Door Open

This engine seems to run better with the front hatch on the motor cover open. Whenever it wants to die while warming up, all I have to do is open that hatch and it picks right up. Are we running too rich or something?

    1967 100HP Johnson, Overheating?

Hi Guys, I bought this Golden Meteor 3 months ago. After successful carb rebuild, new impeller, power pack, coil, and a few other misc parts, I've had about 15hrs of very satisfying running time with it on the river. Saturday, I failed at navigating and allowed First Mate Girlfriend to run us...

    1966(?) Thunderbird Project (pics)

Hi Folks. I need some help to ID the year and model of my current project boat. Here's the story, pics below: June 5th, I bought a dirty old Thunderbird out of someones back yard. It had been passed around a couple times for a decade, and hadn't been registered since 2001 because no one could...

1967 Golden Meteor Fuel Delivery Problem

Re: 1967 Golden Meteor Fuel Delivery Problem Here's the service manual figure, and what I'm confused about. As you can see in the top image, the float falls against the needle and is 9/16" from the gasket surface. In the bottom image, you turn the carb right side up and the float falls against...

1967 Golden Meteor Fuel Delivery Problem

Hi everyone, I just purchased this motor and am now over the ignition issues, only to run into what seems like a fuel delivery problem since she starts on starter fluid but immediately shuts down. The fuel line to the carb looks bone dry on the inside so I'm guessing I'll be playing with the...

    1967 100HP Johnson

Re: 1967 100HP Johnson Getting ready to start putting the beast back together and hook it up to the new battery. So, this may be a dumb question, but are these two connectors meant to be joined before I start cranking it? (service manual arrives tomorrow)

    1967 100HP Johnson

Re: 1967 100HP Johnson Ok the Thunderbird has landed. Spark plugs look new from the outside, some frayed wires in there, flywheel turns but the shifter doesn't seem to put it in gear as-is without a battery attached (because electronic shifting or something?) I think I'll need a fuel line to...

    1967 100HP Johnson

Considering picking up what appears to be a Thunderbird Iroquois (need to go see to be sure) with a 1967 100HP Johnson motor. Seller swears it needs a pulse pack... I think I'd be doing some diagnostics myself to be sure before I start throwing money at it, but it sounds like it's changed hands...
