Model J3RETB 1993 Johnson 3 hp in wonderful condition.
Well I was moving right along in trying to set the idle just right. I had my outboard in a tank and was having some success. After having warmed up the engine I put her in gear and started the process. I had previously installed a new...
With all the knowledge I have seen presented in the various forums and the attention to detail which everyone seems to have, why have I not seen anyone recommend using dielectric grease on all electrical (spark plug) components? Please explain.
Thanks in advance,
On my 93 3 hp Johnson model #J3RETB; now that I have it running and I want to move it from neutral to forward; please tell me at what point can I shift. Is there any magic to this and if so what is it? As I mentioned in an earlier posting the indicators are pretty well worn off the tiller. I...
I seem to recall coming across a link displaying old product catalogs. The site also displayed owners manuals; not repair manuals but the small 20 page or so Owners Manual.
Please refresh my memory.
I have a Johnson 1993 3 hp Model J3RETB. Please help me with two items:
1. The tank water is turning almost black on the surface from trying to start this little engine. Probably the oil in the fuel. I have new drive fluid, new impeller and new gas filter. Also fresh gas with (red) OMC oil...
I have got my little 3 hp Johnson all ready to fire up. It starts like a champ but is revving too high. Not sure which way is up and down and stop. Indicators have worn off. Please tell me the do's and don't s.This is a 1993 3 hp. Would like to adjust settings but I want something a bit...
Was putting bottom and top together after replacing the impeller and while putting the shaft in place and the shift rod and the water tube into the grommet I noticed a little oil dripping down from the water tube. Should I be concerned? BTW, this is a 3 hp Johnson, 1993 which I recently...
I am the proud owner of a second hand outboard. This baby is in wonderful shape. I am missing the red screw-in button for the kill switch. It appears Johnson want to sell the entire assembly. All I need is the red button that screws/snaps in.
Please help me.
I need to remove the bottom front piece of the case. How do I get the Fuel shut-off / choke button off. As you know there is the top and a bottom front and back.
BTW, is this a good little engine? If you know of any reoccurring problems please identify them.
Thank you in advance.
To all you seasoned Johnson users:
Should I use my 1967 3 hp in great shape and runs like a swiss watch (and folds) or should I buy a 1991 3 hp johnson and sell the folder?
Which runs quieter and is easier to perform periodic maintenance on?
Thanks in advance,
fat boy:)
I have a very nice 1967 3 hp folding johnson. The case is kind of rough. Does anyone know of a case for a johnson where the engine is shot but the case is good?
Thanks:)
To those in the know, kindly explain the difference between a Lightwin, a Ducktwin and a Yachtwin. Do these reference only Evinrude or do they also apply to Johnson? I can understand the twin for twin cylinders.
Thanks in advance,
Fat Boy
I recently purchased a 3 hp johnson that folds and has a case. The motor is a 8 out of 10 and the case is a 4 out of ten. I don't need the folding capability. I do need a lightweight 3 or 4 hp motor for an inflatable. Should I sell this to someone who collects these very unique motors and...
