    '74 Gear Lube

Just picked up a '74 Mercury 50 HP Thunderbolt. Owner did not have the manual, so here I am looking for your help. I was looking at this...http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/agm.aspx Now I'm not quite sure which brand will work better for this older outboard. I've heard that some of the new...

    Boat swaying when anchored

I'm fairly new to anchoring, don't do it much, so I did my search on here and learned quite a bit. I have a 16 ft aluminum v-hull boat. I have a 22 lb anchor at the bow. A 15 lb (I think) in the back on a winch setup. I want to know is that, by properly anchoring from the bow with one or...

Got a 1966 - 45 hp - Chryler outboard and I do not know what spark plugs go in it. Can someone please point out the proper spark plugs I will need, thanks!

    Shaky-head

I have a '78 - 35hp and it runs great. Only problem is that it shakes quite a bit...especially when it idles or runs at low speed. I understand that it's an older motor and I shouldn't expect perfection out of it, but I would like to know what I can do to reduce the shakyness. Thanks!

    Final steps

I just painted my last coat of Rustoleum topside marine paint this morning around 11 AM. I?m waiting 24 hrs before I do anything else to it. Is it okay to wet sand this final coat since I want a smooth finish look and what grit should I use? How long do I have to wait before I can use the boat?

    Thinning paint?

I?m repainting my boat. Last season I went with the rustoleum spray can route and it did turn out nice. After a season of hard fishing, the boat has taken a beating. I?ve got chips all over the boat. Chips down to the primer layer. So, I?m redoing it this time with rustoleum marine...

    1978 35 HP not starting

Pulled the boat out to fix for the season and was able to get her to fire up at first. A few hours passed and I went back to fire it up and it just suddenly stopped and will not start. At first I thought it was the battery so I recharged it and nothing. I replace with a new battery and new...

    Steering system question

I had the ?rack? type system and I?m planning to go with a rotary since so many people recommended it. The cable length is 12 ft on the rack system. Here?s my question. Obviously the rack system is a bit longer than the rotary with a total of 12 ft of cable length, so if I do go ahead with...

    Steering System

I had a rack style system with a 12 ft cord on my fishing boat. I need to replace it since my boat drives like it's out of power steering fluid. Should I go with the rack style or the rotary style system? What's the benefit of both? Thanks!

    No fuel...

...I have a ?78 35 HP Evinrude and it just recently quit taking in gas. When I prime the pump on the fuel line?it will not suck in any fuel. I replaced the entire fuel line from gas tank to motor and bought a new gas tank and it did not solve the problem. I called my local marine shop and was...

    Humminbird 565 Problems

When I'm running the motor at lower speeds, the image on the screen appears fine. When I'm running the motor at higher or full speed...the image on the sonar gets all screwed up. Depth ranges jumps around...screen gets cluttered up...and then freezes. I have to turn the unit off and drop...

    Steering system replacement

I will need to replace my steering system very soon and need some questions to be answered. I have a ’78 Evinrude 35 Hp. 1. I have a rack system right now, but I heard rotary systems are better. Could I replace my rack with a rotary? 2. How do I determine how long of a cable do I need? 3...

    Choke

1st time boater, so bare with me and the newbie questions. What's the function of the "choke?" I notice when the motor is running and I pull it out, the motor idles higher than when it's pushed in. Also noticed that I can start the motor better when it's out than in.

    '78 Evinrude starter gear

I thought I solved this problem, but now it's constantly happening. The starter gear will not pop up to catch the flywheel when I start the motor. Instead it will remain down and spin by itself. I noticed that when I take a flat head screw driver and push the coil that's around the shaft up...

    Starter not in contact

Ran my motor all week and I had no problems. Today, I started the boat at the lake and the motor did not fire up. Got home and this is what I found. The starter is not in contact with the flywheel when I turn the key. It will still spin. It seems to be stuck down and I can't seem to raise...
